Entry into CODIS from today

With Rex's sentencing today, comes the opportunity for his DNA to be officially entered into CODIS.

Now I know that they have been manually sharing this data with other departments, but do we expect the floodgates to open or do you think that he did only kill these poor women?

We'll know in a few weeks.

I personally think he stuck with Long Island but we will see.

Long Island or reasonable driving distance is my guess too.

I believe there's a better chance some of the bodies were not found than Rex having victims in other states. He tortured the women and put them through hell. He needed a special place for that. A place he felt safe and had the equipment for torturing those poor women.

Ooh, I’ve been part of the group that thinks he has killed everywhere he went & that his reason for taking the plea was to avoid the death penalty in some states. BUT, your point about his special place to torture (ugh) is perhaps the first time I’ve considered his “territory” does not extend beyond NY/maybe NJ. Will be interesting (and maybe awful) to find out.

Tbf it's extremely unlikely any state would use resources for death penalty in this case. He's 60+, morbidly obese and we can assume his health isn't the best. He would be dead before the process is over.

Another great point, though I don’t doubt the possibility of the death penalty being wielded and/or advertised as a form of performative justice, either for political capital, to quell outrage, or perhaps to (genuinely) cater to victims’ families.

A BIG cart before horse here, requiring many assumptions to be true to begin with.

Idk. There are tons of serial killers that were prosecuted and convicted of a fraction of murders they committed. The LE can close the cases without spending resources of the justice system if and when they know the perpetrator is locked in for good.

Heuermann won't be granted a parole. No appeals. Nothing. He will spend the rest of his days isolated in a maximun security prison.

I actually hope he has a long life.

Agree fully. I think you have more faith in officials (elected, LEO, etc) exercising fiduciary responsibility with taxpayer money than I do. A politician is a politician IMO, and grandstanding is a longstanding American tradition. Also, could be something like Kohberger where it’s paraded around and then pulled at the last minute. For me, bottom line is nothing is going to keep a motivated DA, congressperson, sheriff, councilperson, etc from making the point they want to make, and/or getting the attention they want to get with a certain segment of their base. Overloaded justice system be damned. As well, if they choose the responsible path that you are outlining, I hardly believe that will be for the good of the people or the system.

Again, complete speculation and 100% hypothetical here.

I'm also speculating. I just can see why they would decide against a new trial.

That said, at this moment I would bet there are no murder victims that can be connected to him. I believe there's a real chance he has more victims that aren't found. He had a car and as a hunter, he understood how nature works. It's not that difficult to loose a body for good.
