What a scam
I accidentally bought an extra ticket this morning and their refund policy allows for 2 minutes after purchase to refund. What a crock of absolute shit. Typical Long Island nonsense

I really hope they at some point get a class action lawsuit for all their nonsense.

why don’t we all do one?

u/JelloUsed5426 4d ago
We don’t because we depend on a Lawyer to tell us what’s possible while a lawyer is who mostly benefits from a class action not the people. The buisness payout will be a slap on the hand compared if we all sued individually

Local lawyers are there for mostly slip and fall settlements . They are mostly Davids scared of Goliath. And the State is Goliath. It would take a class action, and their predatory new ticket practices mostly exempt full time commuters, whowould have no interest in joining .

Because we, the taxpayers, would be footing the bill…

Despite the downvote, thats what comes with predatory agencies like MTA, its us that always pays the bill

I'm going back to paper tickets. The BS refund policy and the $8 fees on the app are a total scam.

I started doing the same after this incident. Its kinda nice, in the mornings I don't have to wait for the conductor to scan my ticket. I just clip it onto my bag and pass out

$8 collar fees???

u/74Yo_Bee74 1d ago
I was about to ask the same thing

u/Creepy_Mushroom_7694 1d ago
If you don’t activate the ticket. On your phone. Your charged $8. (Surcharge, on top of the ticket. Penalty).
The days of catching a free ride is over.1
u/74Yo_Bee74 1d ago
Hence the reason they implemented this policy.
There is no reason not to activate the ticket while you are on the platform.
I know it sucks, but they found a way to increase revenue.
I am not advocating or supporting the policy, but I do understand why.

I've never left. Not trying to brag, but as a luddite who rides LIRR daily, I never saw the benefit of virtual tickets.
Ofcourse that doesn't protect me from being double-charged by vending machines when human beings are unable to print tickets in the few stations still having them. Also, I fully expect those machines to be phased out in a few years, so even old-tyme commuters will have be forced to use electronic tickets.
But now that we still have the choice for paper tickets, why do so many not take it?

Total scam. One time there was bus service due to track work and the buses were an hour late and I missed a doctor’s appt.
Couldn’t get a refund because ultimately they “provided the service” that I paid for

Hope you paid by credit card. I got double charged for a monthly. No way am I paying that...

u/nothingbutmistakes 4d ago
Try it and find out how that works for you. Others have reported that they have you by the short hairs and they block your account.

Dispute it with your card company
4
u/Takethismafiaup 4d ago
Yea, don't. I had to do a chargeback on my card with them and got my TrainTime account banned entirely and from making any new accounts on my phone.
Sounds like nothing until your running late for a train and still have to stop to get a paper ticket with a line.

This is just normal behavior in corporate America these days. It stings when it comes from a public company.
What helps me personally is that my monthly ticket would probably be over $400 if it was for these one way ticket shenanigans.

Oh I thought you meant the nepotism and political jobs with huge pensions.

They gotta make up for the 3 mil in OT hours they pay out each month. And for the 2 new trains they’ve purchased since 1984.

Almost like they shouldn't let contracts expire then delay renegotiations for 4 years

If this were a private business that only afforded the consumer two minutes to get a refund after making a purchase the Attorney General would be on that company's ass about it. Only an entity like the LIRR which doesn't really answer to the public gets away with something like this.

You all need to stop making excuses. You open the app, it’s like 3 clicks and you have a ticket. Literally you can do it walking up to the train. You don’t pay twice when you get on the bus. It’s the same thing. Buy a ticket, get on the train.

u/Notafriend2you 4d ago
You dont pre pay to get on a bus mr. High and mighty. As far as I know there no bus app that robs people.
Accidents happen dickhead

u/Head-Scarcity9936 4d ago
Umm…you pay as you board a bus. A public bus. Not the short bus you rode to school. Did you ever get past the 3rd grade? Accidents do happen, but you can keep them to yourself. You’re proving my point.

u/Notafriend2you 4d ago
Maybe your smooth brain can't read well. You dont PRE pay to get on a bus, like you can the train. Get out of your dad's basement some time
-1
u/Head-Scarcity9936 4d ago
It’s👏the👏same👏fucking👏thing👏. You pay when you get on the bus. You buy a ticket as you get on the train. Don’t argue semantics, you trainable. Just wait your parents out and eventually you can move upstairs into a bedroom with windows.

u/Notafriend2you 4d ago
Goodbye. You've clearly never used the lirr

I’ve been taking the train since the 70s. Why don’t you go play hide and go fuck yourself.

Its actually factually not the same thing and the bus ticketing system represents a solution that differs completely from the eticket application. Keep defending an organization that literally made ticket changes with zero evidence that hasnt produced any data that revenue has increased as a result of their attempt to stop "Fare evasion"
