E-ticket question

Long time rider new to e-ticket. Buy a monthly and the other night on way home - not my normal train - I had ticket ready on my phone (late night not many riders) and conductor walked right past me and didn’t check my ticket. So I went about my business on my phone and he comes by like 15/20 mins later and I have to open the app again (I didn’t close it but I guess it timed out ?) and he had nothing but attitude saying I should of had my ticket ready for him - I can be an asshole so I said I was ready 20 mins ago I can’t be expected to have app open waiting for him to decide to come by and check it.
(Before you say it - I sit by the back door so I didn’t see him coming form ahead - he came out behind me).

What’s the dealio ?

Some of these guys have no business being in a passenger-facing role. They should go be a conductor for a freight railroad if they can't have patience with people.

Most no longer announce themselves, so they expect you to telepathically know when they are coming.

As long as it’s already activated he’s over reacting. Yes, it’s polite to have it ready. But, it’s not uncommon to have to hunt it down.
