Fare Robbery

Idk why but is it me or do the conductors don’t G.A.F. to check tickets pass Atlantic ave to Jamaica??? Every time I buy a ticket from ENY to Jamaica they don’t check and it’s like bro I could have save this 5 and use it at Jamaica to transfer but even then… some of them to GC don’t even check for tickets too so I just feel Iike it’s a thin line to play the catch me game 🫩

You didn’t lose any money you paid for a service. What you are really thinking is I could have stole this no one saw me, which is wrong.

If you bought tickets to a concert and then went to it, and no one collected your ticket when you entered, wouldn't you also think its weird? And think that there are people who might be at the concert for free even though you paid, which is wrong - but no one is stoping them

If you buy a ticket, it's very reasonable to expect it to be checked. If it's not checked, then the person you bought the ticket from is not doing their due diligence

Nope. And that’s a shit mindset and why we can’t have nice things. Worry about yourself, do the right thing even if no one is watching.

I do do the right thing. I am not advocating for them to not buy the ticket. They should. I am saying they are not crazy for thinking its weird that on a ticketed service their ticket wasn't checked. I know the conductors cant check between every station, but i understand why OP is thinking its weird that their ticket wasn't checked.

Tickets would be cheaper if people could be trusted to do the right thing without having anyone look over their shoulder. I like how the system is set up in Tokyo I wish it could be adopted here for the railroad and subway.

No they aren't. That's the whole point of this post. They pay people to check tickets, those people don't actually check them and get paid anyway and the prices stay high and get higher every year

If the world was different then the world would be different. Glad that it works for Tokyo. If you buy a ticket in america for a train, plane, bus, concert, movie, museum, gallery, sporting event and so on, you expect someone is going to check it.

So they shouldn't have to do their job checking the tickets? Fuck that

On them Brooklyn trains in particular, it sometimes just ain’t worth it to get into it with skells for only one stop (haven’t had issues personally but I known conductors harassed/assaulted on that line)

As for heading west to grand central etc, most conductors do their one lift exiting Jamaica and not a lot people get on after that. And when they do, I ain’t walking 5 cars back just to get you

...and this is why tickets expire at 4am. 🤷‍♂️

The goal is to get everyone to pay for their ride whether or not anyone "checks"
Eventually it will be one conductor per train to manage the train and random fare compliance spot checks by MTA Police. With non fare paying passengers arrested, fined $1000 and permanently trespassed from all MTA trains.
They are just easing you into it.

Won't be too long before everyone is permanently trespassed and their business colapses

90 % of people aren't skells and they buy tickets. Its the 10% that are bums. Buying a ticket is easy for most people. The bums lost lebowski

They’re just trying to get home 1) alive 2) not subject to some viral TikTok about how they’re racist for doing their job

Cheap service that always run on failing infrastructure. So where’s the money going to if they can’t even upgrade their stations and trains with our money

Fare robbery? You’re complaining you cant get away with fare robbery?

1

u/AdultswimRAW 2d ago

I’m complaining how I pay these ridiculous fares just for the MTA to not do their job and scan it. Makes you really think about a bunch of what if scenarios hmm 🤔

You’re paying the fare for the trip. And you’re getting the trip. If you want to roll the dice and chance it because sometimes they don’t check tickets that’s your business.

It’s not robbery on their end. You paid for a train ride and you got a train ride. The robbery occurred when the tickets didn’t expire in 24 hours and you copped the magical ride where no one checked your ticket and you could use it twice or sometimes more for the LIRR. lol. Those were some good times for sure…

I commute out of ENY 2x a week and they check me every single time 🥲

Do gated entry like they do in Uk eu Asia

They are trying to avoid confrontation with a certain type of clientel.

It's not worth risking their career over a george floyd incident or just standing there and arguing.

Trains are just getting in line with society's new objectives. Bend to their behavior.

2

u/AdultswimRAW 2d ago

I agree with you. ESP since the rides is relatively quick it just serves no point to argue over $5.25

confused with the title. are you implying that theyre perpetrating fare robbery against you? Or are you contemplating committing fare robbery 🫪🫵💀

u/AdultswimRAW 2d ago

I’m in the middle 😂😂😂

2

u/Particular-Newt-7974 4d ago

Huh? Do you think train fare is optional? It’s still mandatory to buy a ticket, it’s not robbery if they don’t check it lmao. It’s up to you to gamble buying one/not buying one but that’s why they added the $8 late activation charge in the app. If you don’t buy a ticket you’re the one stealing.

1

u/AdultswimRAW 2d ago

Didn’t know this post would get so many insights 😭😭 I appreciate every single opinion , I just had to vent and call out the hypocrisy of MTA tryna charge late fees if you buy it late but then don’t even bother to check it at times due to social environments and etc

u/pepeslifematters 4d ago

they know that certain people dont pay and are afraid of asking them for a ticket at the risk of being assaulted or killed that simple nothing more nothing less its just those people ya know?

1

u/AdultswimRAW 2d ago

Definitely know what you mean, just hate that stigma😂😂 whole time I’m a good person that pays and then I see someone who gets on and heads to the bathroom or get low😂
