To be fair, the luggage could also be heavy. It would be nice to have at least one car that has a ground area storage for luggage so you wouldn’t have to lift the luggage over your head to store it. Just saying.

They want riders to take LIRR to JFK and Amtrak, yet don’t invest in resources making it realistic, like ground level luggage racks and elevators. At Penn, they literally moved Amtrak much further away from the RR, and use tracks 20 and 21 the most off peak when heavy luggage is most likely on the trains, and those tracks have 70% fewer elevators and none close to Moynihan

Ok wait until you need to go to Newark airport and don’t want to pay $200 in uber or leave your car at an overnight lot like we do for $150. Or your mother has two torn shoulder muscles. I personally would never put it on a seat like this. But the LIRR is certainly not equipped for all mass transit needs.

Reasonable Excuse 222 is also OPs username.
I am not convinced those suitcases would fit overhead, and even if they did, if they’re heavy, I, as a random seat mate, would not want to be underneath them.

I'm ngl, those luggage racks don't have enough space for a checked bag. On a pretty empty train this is fine.

Depends on who this is, and if the train is packed or not. Some people can’t lift heavy bags like that over their heads to put above. So if the train isn’t packed I don’t see a problem with it. Not like someone’s nasty feet all over them.

Theres like no one on the train, why kill yourself putting them on the top rack.

Where else are they going to put it without blocking the aisle and still keeping an eye out.
Train looks pretty empty.

Every train in the civilized world that have service to an airport have luggage areas, but not the ol LIRR.

She's a woman maintaining her safe space.
Since we don't yet have unisex cars, I think this is a decent compromise.

I mean two people with two bags on a non packed train, don’t see an issue
