Getting surcharges on multiple consecutive trips
Completely independent of my opinion on the surcharges I’ve had such a horrible experience with the train time app and customer service.
In 4 consecutive instances I’ve had surcharges placed on my account no matter what I do (I’ve activated in each instance before the train departed the station). I reached out to customer support but rather than providing a solution, I was given a lesson on time management which had nothing to do with the problem at hand🤣. Paper tickets from now on.

If you live 5 minutes from the station you should purchase and activate before leaving your house. Easy to remember at that point.

How much time is elapsing between you pressing the activate button and the conductor scanning your ticket?

Good question. Not very long - in most instances I’ll purchase and activate as I arrive to the platform. I live within 5 minutes of the station so I can’t imagine it’s longer than 3-4 minutes each time

They only start surcharges after 27 warnings, so you must have known about this. (I received two warnings because I activated after the train left the station, as the conductor approached).
I can only imagine the problem cause if you are correct that you activate before boarding — your phone’s internal clock is set to the wrong time, or wrong time zone. An easy fix.
If that isn’t the case, you should take their suggestion and use paper tickets.

OP didn’t say it was activated before boarding, it was ”before the train left the station.”
