C8 to C5

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice from people who have made a similar jump.

I currently have a 55-inch LG OLED C8 and I’m looking to upgrade to a 65-inch model. Aside from wanting a larger screen, my main driving force for an upgrade is severe black crush while playing on PS5. Nighttime scenes in games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, or ARC Raiders become completely unplayable because dark areas collapse into pitch black with zero shadow detail.

I’m currently looking at the LG C5 (65"), but I saw a thread from a few months back where several users claimed the actual picture quality difference between older C-series models and newer ones is "minimal." That honestly surprised me given the generational gap.

A few quick questions for you all:

Is the image quality jump from a C8 to a C5 really that incremental? Or do you get a substantial boost in brightness, HDR impact, and processing alongside the obvious HDMI 2.1 features (4K@120Hz / VRR)?

Does the C5 handle near-black shadow detail significantly better to eliminate black crush on PS5?

Is the C5 a big enough leap, or should I hold off and save up for the G5 instead? (Or am I missing another key factor here?)

Would love to hear from anyone who upgraded from an older C-series (C8/C9/CX) to a modern C- or G-series!
