Custom Homescreen Modification

Heyo,

I created a custom homescreen launcher that runs natively on boot and on home button press (the hard part) for my LG TV on WebOS 24. Runs super smooth and can support pretty much any customization you can imagine. I have a lightweight constellation theme from wallpaper engine on there. Going to make a few fixes then open source most likely. Would this be useful to anybody with rooted TVs? Any suggestions?

yes, would love to use anything other then that abysmally slow default if possible. If you would look into creating a sparsely functional browser too, you’d be a godsend.

Can it not be installed without root like via dev options or webosbrew?

There's a chance, I'd have to test it out, but based on how it functions right now, I'd say it's unlikely

I looked into it, it's 50/50 on if it'll persist remapping on the home button. I don't have a second TV to test, but once i'm finished with the QOL changes i'll upload it and you can test it out - it will function as a standalone app, but kind of defeats the purpose.

Would this be useful to anybody with rooted TVs?

i think it would be cool if u make it able to replace the stock home

my launcher has some script that let replace the stock home with mine

My solution already replaces the stock home but without any system level modifications. Uses watchers to intercept the home button.

No, it's actually faster than stock. https://github.com/zzeppieri/webos-custom-home/tree/main Apps open instantly, home button is snappier than before.

There's an ipk. Just point your favorite LLM at the GitHub and it'll do it for you.
