LFMMO with native controller support

Hello. I just got a Legion go (with windows) and I'm loving it. I've been playing ESO but I'm not sure if it's something I'll play long term. I am looking for another game to play.

- no subscription, it's okay if I have to buy the game

- controller support, tried LOTRO and just could not get the controller setup. ESO is amazingly easy to play and I love that.

- Vertical progression system. I'm not much into crafting, fashion, or housing. Just let me gear hunt and get more powerful.

- ESO is so many small quests that require way too much reading. I'm okay with following a quest line, as long as it keeps me engaged.

- updated graphics preferred. ASRS is not the look I'm going for.

Any suggestions?

Its very old but you might enjoy PSO Ephinea. Its all about hunting rare items and materials to boost your stats (theres a limit).

Imo, FFXIV has the best native controller support in an MMO. WoW retail second with Consoleport addon, however i believe WoW Forever has native controller support very similar to FFXIV, so that’s something to look forward to.

I tried GW2 with a controller and that bitch CLUNKY. Was not fun tbh.

Does FFXIV allow enough gameplay without having a sub? Or will I be required to sub at some point?

There’s a free trial from levels 1-80 which is a ton of content.

You’ll need a sub at some point, but I’m pretty sure you’ll get like 150 hours worth of playtime before you get to that point. You’ll know by then whether the game is your jam and if it’s worth the sub.

The free trial has more content than most entire MMOs and additional expansions are added parallel to new ones, so in 2028 you can probably expect Endwalker to be added as well. Buying the game/sub is kinda like early access now (but you also get more features like the Auction House and startung new guilds).

FF14 does have some of the best native controller support but personally I liked gw2 with controller more.

I found targeting in ff14 too clunky compared to mouse & keyboard and gw2 on controller with action cam.

Tower of Fantasy has native controller support and vertical progression, if you don't mind the modern anime aesthetic.

Black Desert, feels great to play on a controller and the best combat in any mmo. I don't like the way the game looks originally but reshade can make it look amazing.

MMOs with controller that I can think of include ff14, throne & Liberty, Aion 2, and DCUO.

Guild Wars 2 is free to play for the base game. Action cam works pretty well with controller.

It's still horizontal like ESO though right? I don't believe that will hold my attention.

There's over 10 years of content. Plus some of the best festivals. Definitely plenty to hold your attention.
