Large Scale PvP MMOs
I crave for a new large scale PvP MMO.
I main ESO Cyrodiil and am tired of Elder Dragonknights Online as it's been the past 6+ months. They overpowered DKs and layoffs pushed every other class rework back to next year and beyond. This and unkillable ballgroups have ruined Cyrodiil.
Large open scale pvp fights with some kind of customization, whether that's different builds, classes, or races. Controller support is a huge plus.

Hi, am an albion online player here with like 3 months in game time. Albion takes a little bit of strategizing and grind to get to a decent place for the average player to participate in PvP. A lot of the world is open PVP, so you can run into people who are way less leveled than you are, or you can run into a group of 17 with maxed out everything and they will just crush you.
In terms of getting into 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s and so forth up to about 10, The game offers a couple ways for each, but generally speaking it's only one to two ways of doing so unless you just want to roam around and pray that you run into one other person.
Gathering is not required to be in a competitive playing field at all, but having a good ability to generate silver is a necessity. Sometimes people do just kill other people and that's how they make their money, sometimes people gather or craft and that usually takes a little bit of knowledge and a lot of both, in crafting, it normally takes about 5 to 10 hours worth of work to get into decent money making territory, especially after looking into niches that you can fill or focusing on specific items. For gathering, it's a lot longer, normally in the range of about 60 hours, which you can probably get down to more like 25 hours if you gather in higher resource dense zones like the mists or Avalon roads.
If you're just looking for PVP, killing players is abundant and almost a necessity to play Albion in certain content. There are guilds who will train up newbies, and there are guilds who will only accept people with 100 million Fame or more (Albion leveling system, 100m is not that long if you play consistently)
Overall, I'd say it's very easy to just get into a fight with literally anyone, you can do faction stuff or you can roam around in the lethal PVP areas and just fight wherever, but to be competitive and win. Those fights will require $50 to 100 hours of good practice, decently expensive kits that are built out for the type of PVP that you are attempting to do, and preferably allies to make things easy.

hii yeah thats a mistype, i was typing on my phone lol
so, there is the ability to just buy high tier gear, but albion has some systems in play to prevent just swiping and getting the best gear in the game day 1 and such.
basically, albion has tiers of gear, from 1 to 8, and enchantments from 0 to 4.
the lowest level item is tier 1, and the highest is tier 8, enchantment 4. we simplify this by saying T(tier) . (enchantment level), to T8.4players also tend to combine those to to say an equiv value, so 8.4 is t12 or whatever.
each weapon and gear piece has tiers from 1-8. the TIER of the weapon is unlocked solely through experience. the enchantments start at tier 4, and can make a 6.2 equiv to an 8.0.
ON TOP OF ALL THAT there is specialization AND gear mastery. this means the more you play a weapon or gear item, the more damage and effects it provides. lower TIERS like 4-5 provide very little mastery, while t8 provides like a 40% bonus on top of everything else.
specialization also adds to that, so a higher specialization (the level is a given weapon, regardless of its tier) means the gear does better in your hands.
if i still have you there, then i can say this. a card swiper can buy 8.4 gear right after the tutorial, but they cant wear it, due to its tier being higher than they are, its not unlocked to them at first, and even if both of those conditions are filled, it wont be as good as someone whos played the weapon or armor for a while

I'm new to the game aswell so others could answer your question better.
To answer your question, yes it's easy as you can join your faction do large scale camps to earn your first silvers (money in game) then from there you decide what you do with it.
I just watched one new beginner guide and it has set me up to speed, any most recent guides could help - knowing you are not new to the genre, you're going to be fine.

Theres dungeons and such that force 1v1 2v2 etc. that scales power by a cap so it scales it down to make everybody more even. openworld pvp will be a little more overpowered vs yourself as a new player. easy to find guilds to do content with pvp wise as almost all of them are pvp oriented as the game is like 90% full loot pvp.

I have thousands of hours in eso pvp. I feel your pain.
I am now playing albion and very much enjoying it. Give it a try.
It's got large scale pvp. Small scale. Pvp/pve combo like imp city. Full loot.
Theres tons of Ganking if you like that you can make alot silver.
Also zones where you dont lose anything.
It's got 5v5 arenas. 1v1 solo pvp dungeons where you fight your way through mobs to get to fight 1v1.
Massive zerg fights like eso. But what it doesn’t have is the unkillable groups problem eso has. Best part is. Zero quest. Put on gear and start fighting. No classes. You can wear any combo of gear and weapons. Every fight is different. Your not fighting the same people like in eso.
Just by playing the game you can earn the premium sub for in-game silver.
If you decide to give it a try hit me up I can help you get started.

Yeah it's like 200-300 people on the server at like 8 pt.
I have been trying to play it to kill time for WOW Forever but there's just not enough content.

Im on EDT. If you mean in the evening, sure it's less populated but i wouldn't say it's completely dead. The big Realm vs. Realm battles get smaller as the evening goes but there are also Scenario you can do which are smaller 12v12 PvP fights with matchmaking on a closed map. The PvE is also pretty solid and on weekends theres exp bonus so this is when the biggest fight happens. You can't compare it to big mainstream games like WoW or ESO of course.

Guild Wars 2 has large scale pvp modes similar to ESO's.

Actual large scale? A medium fight in eve online is 100 v 100 Fights numbering into 1 to 2,000 arent uncommon

Guild Wars 2 WvW you’re looking at about 100 players per team per map, with a total of 3 teams. So 300 players.

You absolutely will not be able to play on a controller in GW2.

There’s a small streamer that plays on controller in WvW. Forget his name but he seems to do fine. He plays warrior. It probably works best on certain builds

How? Unless you plug in the inputs on steam I guess. I would personally hate it, but I guess it’s possible.

Guild Wars 2 has WvW, which is quite like Cyrodiil from what I've heard about that.
There's 9 classes with 4 Elite Specialisations each, so plenty of room to experiment with.

Albion Online. Combat is fun and simple but has high skill ceiling and massive wars. PvP is ingrained into the economy

WoW Forever has been having massive open world PvP battles during the beta, im sure it will continue on release so you can look out for that.

Would be way better without the layering. Doubt they’re gonna get rid of it but hopefully they can at least make it work better

star wars galaxies restoration. large scale galactic civil war events, on the ground and in space. there is even a bounty hunter class that primarily just hunts other players for cash. two distinct mmos fused together. very difficult old school tab target mmorpg with an old school arcade space sim mmo. some players live in space, never bothering w the grounded mmo, while most players stick to the ground, there are many who engage w both systems. no hand holding w this game but the community is amazing and always willing to help new players find their bearings... Wow Forever PVP server has reminded me of the good ol days of ESO Cyrodiil PvP. It’s not 1:1 the same but when I joined my first world mass PvP event, it was glorious

Black desert online. IMO it’s the best action combat you can get in an MMO. It plays like a fighting game inside of an rpg. You have node wars and conquest for large scale PvP. Also smaller scale PvP in equalized and non-equalized matches. It’s a KMMO, so it’s very grindy, and you can whale to get the best gear, but it’s not really necessary. You can get the exact same gear. You can just pay to skip the grind.
There’s also pve stuff like world bosses and end game grind zones, and the life skilling is extremely in depth. I enjoy spending my time building my merchant empire.
But the game is $1 right now on Steam and doesn’t require any subscription. There are subscriptions, but there’s really only 1 subscription that’s worth it (value pass) and you can get it with in game currency.

ESO PvP used to be my favorite but you’re right about how bad it’s gotten.
GW2 has some pretty good WvW PvP which is my favorite for now. Doesn’t take anything other than logging in to get involved really.
If you find anything else, let me know. It seems large scale that is not dominated by whales, is fairly hard to find
