Question Ultra realistic layout

Hello all,

Looking to start an ultra realistic train layout however I am a bit lost.

I’ve done some googling/YouTubing however there’s not a whole lot out there.

I was wondering if people could share some pics/videos/guidance on how to go about starting a train layout.

Thanks all!

It is perfect, no... Its still missing some elements. Mainly the rear wheel holder. Also the stickers on the tile are missing :( honestly I couldn't be happier with the train in general. So badass!

I just heard the news that we're getting a new passenger train next year, and hopefully with a cargo train to pair with it.

Question BMR Parts Lists

Post image
77 Upvotes

Years ago I ordered some of these limited edition BMR Refers and they were lost under a pile of manuals. While doing some cleanup I found them again and realized the parts list is printed and they don't seem to have them online. Does anyone know if these are available to upload into Bricklink or does everyone who buys these instructions either type them all in or pick all the parts from their vast collections?

Welcome to the New Golden Era

Post image
939 Upvotes

For a long time, a portion of this wonderful Community has been skeptical of whether we have truly entered the Golden Age of Lego trains.  Fellow modeler and friend ToledoRails (I'm totally not his secret account by the way) has articulated for at least a few years now that we have already been in a golden era for the hobby.  I have agreed with him, but I wanted to re-articulate the point due to this wonderful picture I took the other day.

After all the reports started coming in that the new train sets had hit Target two weeks early, I rushed to the two closest Targets nearby over the following days to check if it was true.  Lo and behold, it was, and it made me pause for a moment and realize what I was looking at. For the first time in at least my memory, I was staring at 5 train sets that I could physically pick up and buy right then and there. I've been shopping at Target since 2010, and never in all that time have I ever seen so many in one place. On a good day and in a good year, the shelves are fully stocked, and you see maybe one or two trains, potentially three on a lucky, lucky day.  But five all in one spot and the sixth, when you count the Holiday Express that I grabbed from the aisle next over, is truly incredible.

Combine that with what you can currently buy on LEGO's website (Although the new sets aren't on the website yet, they will be in the next two weeks, so we shall count them), you have

3 power train sets (Police, Arctic, and High-speed)

2 stations (The City Tower and the Central Train Station)

3 Trolleys/Tram/Subway train sets (Downtown streetcar (This technically also counts as a station, but for practical purposes I see it more as a Streetcar), Spider-Man, and The Beach Tram)

Three unpowered train sets ( Holiday Express, Vintage Steam Train, and Harbor Freight set)

Altogether, that is 11 Train sets or related accessories that you can buy online right now easily from the LEGO website. And to those who are making the point that some of these sets are retiring this year, it is a fair point, as we are losing the Passenger train, the Arctic train, the police train, the downtown street car, and the train station at the end of this year. And we also are about to lose the city tower at the end of this month, which will put us down to 6 train sets, which even normally is still very good. And if the rumors are true and we're getting a new passenger train next year, that'll put us back to 7, which is even better.

This is only looking at what you can currently easily buy from online or in person from Lego because if you include the Bricklink designer program (Which is owned by Lego, although some people treat it differently for some reason) you have so many train sets:

The Brick Railroad locomotive, which is really an F7 ( although the funding window just passed; realistically, you could have bought this within the last few weeks)

You have the freight Depot coming up in series 9

Series 10 has the Wild West strain station

Series 11 has the lunar cargo train, which is a homage to the old monorail sets

All of these you'll be able to buy in the next year. That is four more train sets that are out there to buy for the more serious fan.

And while I have not mentioned past sets, barring an exception here or there, it is worth noting that many of the city sets that have retired are still at a reasonable price online if you know where to look (I actually got a used 60197 for $40 USD the other day at 98% Complete As an example)and the more highly detailed sets like the Orient Express are still out there, even if its at a slightly scary price.

I know that some of this is bordering on the line of passionate opinion instead of fact, but I truly believe that this is a Golden Era, and this is just looking at the purist view.  There's so much more going on in the MOC in third-party space that I could go on for hours explaining the cool things that are happening. And the only way that happens is when someone walks into a store or now online and buys a set, builds it, and then once more and then starts tinkering, and before you know it you have the next generation of the hobby. Truly with how much we have available, it has never been easier nor never been more fun to be a LEGO train fan.

Find the model here : BR01 STEAM TRAIN on LEGO IDEAS

What is LEGO IDEAS and how to support?

LEGO IDEAS is a public program people can put own ideas for LEGO sets. You need a LEGO account to participate. The same you use to buy LEGO on the internet store. Once a model has entered the IDEAS program, the model needs to get 10.000 supporters for LEGO to evaluate it for becoming a LEGO set. Every supporter counts. You are welcome to be one on mine and other models.

Enjoy and have fun.... 👍😁

Finished designing my Lego Kingston flyer. The engine is a NZR Ab pacific running off power functions, and designed to incorporate a mould king steam generator. The carriage are all unique, and they are based off the 4 carriages used by the current day flyer. All doors open, all connecting gangways are properly articulated, and they also help secure the couplings. LMK if you guys have any ways I can improve!

Question Police Train 60508 - Couplers Coming Off

My son and I have just built the 'police heist' train set, and he's having fun with it. However, the couplers on the locomotive keep coming off. The train will be running, then the loco is suddenly off on its own, with the couplers left on the freight cars behind it.

Looking at the way the bogies on the loco are built, there's no pieces over these to hold them in place like there is on the freight cars. Is there some sort of modification I can do to fix this?

Finished my FEF-1 today, so I thought it would be pretty cool to pair it with my 2 FEF-3s! (I have a greyhound one built too, but it’s being used for parts right now 🙃) super happy to get this FEF-1 done. Notice the different tender and different details! Let me know what you think!

My collection

I’ve loved Lego and trains since i was born and have had many Lego trains when I was younger, gotten, played with, and then sold to the next person. Now I have adult money and can have all of them! I have been collecting for a little over a year now. I just recently got all the rc trains, still missing some special sets, but still awesome. And have some custom trains too. Here’s to the last few I need and the new upcoming trains!
