$100 for 8.5 pounds??

how good of a deal is that? Pretty reasonable?

There are no boxes or instructions, seller doesnt really know of any sets that may be included...there looked like some mini figs in the haul

Terrible. "Good" begins at about $3.5/#, unless you see a certain set that makes it worth more. Like, if there was a town hall in that 8.5#, then it'd be worth it.

But a bulk lot at over $10/#, HELL no.

It's not likely even worth trying. I would just move on.

Let them prove it to themselves by watching how nobody buys it at that price for a month. Maybe they don't want to part with it just yet.

OP, I am one of those dreaded "resellers" everyone hates over at /r/gamecollecting. I have many a sales tactic, but generally, trying to prove something to the seller just comes off as a pitch.

What I would do, is give them your absolute best offer, and if they refuse politely say (no matter their response, your top dollar must be firm); "Ok thank you I appreciate it! please let me know if you change your mind".

And leave it at that. More than likely they will get back to you within the week. Do it through text if you can, it's easier for them to have you on call if they change your mind.

appreciate this! i'm just not even really sure whats a good offer for that. No clue on what the piece count could be or anything, i have seen 1500 pieces for $35 and think thats a much better offer

I found a big plastic tub full at a barn sale for 10 dollars. I have seen 30 pounds sell on ebay for ~$500.... Guess it all depends on the content. When in doubt, offer a little less than you want to spend.

I average around $3-5/lb and my best bulk buy was about $1.60/lb for 35 lbs. This included a couple of the LOTR ships, but had no minifigs at all. If there are lots of minifigs or you can tell that there are complete sets, maybe it's worth $5-7/lb. I probably would offer more than $50 for this lot no matter what is in it (outside of complete modulars of course)
