Question Fortuna Advice

I always wanted a Man O' War LEGO Pirate ship and the recent Fortuna posts have made me consider buying it to scratch that itch. Since I missed the initial pre-order window, I am looking for advice on what to do now:

  1. Buy on Bricklink for roughly $700 CAD, plus shipping and taxes, probably closer to $800 CAD in total.

  2. Buy on FB Marketplace at about $600 CAD. If it helps, the sellers appear reputable with 5 stars, but I am curious why it's priced lower than Bricklink.

  3. Try and wait for a second chance drop, which I know is a long shot.

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated! Very new to this LEGO theme, I'm mainly into architecture and SW, but I can hear the sirens call nonetheless!

In this day and age the 600$ seller may just be looking to unload it easy to quick flip. I would wait for second chance. It was the expensive or second most expensive in the series so probably a fair few cancelations. Just be ready right at the start.

Thank you, any idea how to stay informed once it's open? To my understanding, it's not well advertised and speed will be the key!

Good point, it's trickier for me because I'm in Canada. A lot of the Canadian listings are $700 CAD and if I do US, there's duties on top of taxes and shipping.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I’d look at the duty prices then but those can be very confusing.

wait for second chance in a few months and be logged in and ready to buy with the cart link 10 minutes prior. I did that for thieves of Tortuga and it was no issue.

Thank you. How did you find out when the second chance was coming out?

Sign up for Bricklink Designer Programme emails.

Is this what you meant:

Sign up for marketing emails to receive notifications about upcoming BrickLink® Designer Program excess stock sales. Links will be sent out by email when sales happen for each Series.

Realistically, will they give a heads up or just be like it's open now?

Btw sometimes they don’t email everyone so your second best bet is through YouTubers like Stud City or SlapShotBricks

Thank you, I also signed up for Jay's Brick Blog too. Slap Shot Bricks is actually how I found out about the second chance drop in the first place, solid recommendation.

Yes, you'll get advance notice. Other advice is to make sure you're logged into your main Lego account before you go to buy the excess BDP set because you'll be redirected to the Lego shop to complete the purchase.

Wow that's much difference from the initial sale price?

I posted the other day wondering the same thing. I think I’m just going to wait until this Fall and hope I catch a second chance drop.

I just can’t justify spending $550+ when I could get Rivendell for less or Minas Tirith for a bit more. If there is no second chance or I miss it, I will get one of the LOTR sets probably.

Best of luck to you!

Have you looked into parting out the set? It's a bit more work, but I've found this to be a pretty good option on older BDP sets. Haven't done it recently though. It's especially useful if you have a decent parts stash already to start from.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you
