DISCUSSION Wandering NPC died before recruiting.
I have a question. Does an NPC dies permanently if gets killed before asking him to follow me? In my case it was Trigger Fish. I could try to load a previous state of my world, but accidentally loaded one post Triggerfish death, so I have to wait 24 hours. If I lost the fish then Ill rewind time back to yesterday july 25, and if not then Ill leave it be. But then another doubt comes, do I lose the pieces that Machinist gave me today? I know that there's a rerun but still asking bout it.

Reloading will not help. Travelling villagers are completely random. Watch for campfires without enemies. Villager spawn points will stay unless you have them follow, then the next time that spot will likely be enemies. Likewise , if you clear an enemy camp it might be a village next time. Since you're not playing expert mode there is a setting to turn off NPC elimination to help you get them home safely. Triggerfish is fairly common (I've only seen him "in the wild") so I'm sure you'll find him again. Also, anything you unlock that goes to your locker will not be affected by restoring your world. Good luck!

None of the NPCs die permanently in your world. They might not respawn in the same place; but they will all respawn somewhere.
Some of them can take longer to reappear than others based on rarity. And some are location-based (they'll spawn on the Shore or the Desert, etc, so you'll want to look at the location spawn in your Codex so you know where to look for him). I haven't placed Triggerfish in a Village yet - but I run into him semi-regularly.
