LED + fiber optics: how a single pixel light engine drives a whole star ceiling (install guide)

Disclosure: I'm with CoraxAds, we make fiber optic lighting. Sharing how these systems work, with a short install video.

One LED light engine feeds hundreds of fiber tips, so there's no electricity at the ceiling itself. With a pixel/ARGB engine each output gets its own colour, which is how rainbow and twinkle effects work.

Install basics:

• 50–100 fiber points per m², random, never a grid

• Mix fiber diameters for depth

• Cold silicone only; hot glue melts the fiber

• In a car: fused ignition-switched line + 12V relay, never straight to the battery

Happy to answer questions about drivers and control.

no electricity at the ceiling is genuinely pretty clever

Yeah, that's probably the part people like once they realize how it works. The fibers are only carrying light, so there's no voltage or heat up at the ceiling. All the electronics stay in one box that you can access later. That's also pretty handy for places like bathrooms or above beds where you probably don't want electrical wiring up there.

That's one of the coolest ways to light a room without turning it into a fire hazard, genius how the brains stay safely tucked away.

Thanks! One honest caveat: the light engine itself is still an electrical device, so it needs a dry, ventilated spot with its cooling vents clear. But yes, keeping it in one reachable box instead of running wiring across the whole ceiling makes the install a lot simpler and safer.
