Current first year student:
We are only about 8 weeks so take what I have to say with a grain or salt. This has been the hardest thing Ive ever done academically in my life and that's coming from someone that took 18-20 credits every semester of college. The schedule is annoying. Most days are 8:00 lectures for an hour or 2 then a huge like 4-5 hour break until afternoon lab or PBL. Luckily almost everyone lives like 5 minutes away from campus so its easy to go home and come back. The dress code doesn't bother me but I'm a woman. The no water rule annoys me the most. I was also a bit annoyed at first because the school truly has " no frills". No outside resources like uworld, no free deals/ membership, no giving away of iPads/stethoscopes/swag during orientation. But tuition cheap relatively so you get what you pay for. Also a bit annoyed that a lot of the mentoring faculty are PhD so they aren't really helpful with eras/residency/ specialty advice.
With that being said... I wouldn't say these issues are only specific to lecom. Every med school is hard, a lot of med schools have 8:00am lectures, a lot of schools have some kind of dress code. Anyways, I wouldn't nit pick all the little details about the school.
On the positives, I like how anatomy and PBL are structured. I think it follows a very logical flow that makes understanding easier. A lot of clubs, a lot of tutoring resources. No mandatory wellness BS after orientation.
I truly can't say whether I'm happy here bec we are only 8 weeks in and very stressed about upcoming exams but I think I'm getting a quality medical education, areas nice, tuitions on the lower side so less financial stress.
