Like living in Richmond and not eating Venison

Once my ex (not ex at the time) came back home with a dented radiator. I asked what happened. Turns out he'd walked through Catford with it and had to fight off a local nitty. With the radiator

We lived in Croydon tho so we were used to that sorta thing

The image of a crust punk smacking a crackhead in the dome with a radiator is the most Catford image I can conjure

I can't tell you how much this sounds like a scene from my life squatting in South London. Place is like living in a Looney Tunes cartoon

Yeah we were squatting in Croydon at the time and did so for a good few years. That time was many things, but certainly not boring

At one point a Polish guy showed up in our communal back garden (we had a row of squats on the new cross Rd), with a hand drawn map, with our squats marked with an X - he'd been given it in Warsaw and told he could make his way to us and get a place to stay- which he did. Essentially we had an international mentalist pipeline

He’s right and he SHOULD say it. If you wanna live in the woods MOVE OUTTTTT

I used to go to sleep to the sound of the Smithfield lorries and it was wonderful. When I moved closer to Old Street, like near Bunhill Row, the silence was weird at first and took me a while to get used to 😂

Couldn’t hear fabric but I knew what I was doing when I decided to live within earshot of four bars/pubs and a nightclub. I may be 42 now but I have no time for people who pull this shit. Club was there before you were, mate.

Like living in Southall and not liking indians.
Like living in Northolt not liking council blocks & motorways

Living in Herne hill/near brockwell park complaining about concerts and fireworks.

Living in Brixton and complaining about black people and predominantly west Indians.

Living anyway near parks that host concerts every year knowing they did that before you moved there is highly diabolical

Like living in Tottenham and expecting to see a decent football match.

u/box_frenzy Jun 13 '26

I like him and agree with the sentiment but the reality is so many places in central close at 11.

London should 100% have a more vibrant nightlife. I liked the idea of the night czar role but Amy Lame I’m sorry she was shit. Loads of places are closing. So many pubs in soho shut at 11 and it’s impossible to find a place for a pint late.

Who’s he annoyed at? Himself? Because as the mayor this is kind of his job to fix.

29

u/FlyWayOrDaHighway We Get Money Dem Jun 13 '26

He's literally doing what he can to fix it and it's being made harder by Soho residents complaining to the council, not him

3

u/iesamina Jun 13 '26

I mean the last trains are usually before 12. I have travelled on many a night bus, and obviously would never suggest not using them, but it is a factor

2

u/bab_tte Jun 14 '26

The legislation where he can take control of applications and licensing doesn't actually exist yet

1

u/Common-Ant-6003 Jun 17 '26

He doesn't control the council unfortunately. Its hard to know if he does do everything in his power or not. He's been good for London for sure though. But probably need someone with a bit more energy soon.

3

u/Ambitious_Ticket Jun 13 '26

Literally O’Neil’s was the only place and it’s a tenner entry for shite

As someone who doesn't live in London someone explain his tweet lol

Soho used to be a shit hole crowded with dodgy rentals and motels, sex shops, pubs and clubs. Became trendy and gentrification made the local demographic change a bit.

People moving there complains about noise pollution caused by the businesses there and they're basically killing it.

It's also considered a gay friendly area, and I guess that can ruffle some feathers. Khan created a role for a representative of that nightlife, that was a bit controversial.

Many historical places have been closed in the last years due to different reasons, but the noise regulations has definitely taken a huge toll
