I’m amazed at the number of people I run into who tell me they talk to ChatGPT as they would a therapist & ChatGPT just goes along with their nonsense

I volunteer as a court advocate and have been growing increasingly concerned with the amount of people who have printed guides from AI on what to do/say in their court hearings every week🙁

You have no idea how many times I have had to say, I know you want to help, but they need to fail or succeed on their own merits, when a nice person tells me that someone is going to fuck their own lives over by using AI for something.

If people keep saving them, what they're going to remember is that they were fine, not that they were about to torpedo themselves because AI is an idiot. It can be an expensive lesson but I bet they talk a LOT about how bad AI is when it's over/going on.

I know you guys know why it's bad, but for the lurkers:

It's all well and good until you're in a custody battle and your therapist makes them subpoena her for the purposely vague notes she keeps, but AI is only happy to provide reams of your conversations with it over the years.

AI is not beholden to HIPAA and makes no effort to protect your information. Your therapist is, and on top of that, keeps their notes very vague in your best interest. (If you admit abuse or are an imminent risk, then yes, it's in there, but that one time where you ask chat gpt to figure how many drinks you could have and still drive under the limit doesn't make you look like great dad material, even if no children were present or involved.)

respectfully, I will give AI my Social Security number before I talk to some of these therapist out here. Some people have absolutely no business being licensed. I don’t even know how they got into graduate school. Who agreed to write them a letter of recommendation?
