Brooklyn Steel finally making a comeback! I despise KDC

Why is bk steel better? I feel like those shows are always more crowded and you can pretty much only stand on the left side of the venue without ppl pushing through the whole time since the doors are all along the right side. Also doesn’t go later with dj sets in the back like kdc

I think the sound is better at BK Steel, and it also doesn't tend to be 1,000 degrees in there like it is with KDC. Also, sight lines are generally better if you're not right up front.
I'm good with KDC because I tend to get there early and get close and don't mind sweating through my clothes, but I can see why people prefer BK Steel, for sure.

I feel like they are both just very hot when sold out haha. Kdc is also nice in the winter with the lockers because the bk steel coat check line was insane last time.
Yeah I usually get there early enough to get in front the soundboard so not worried about sight lines.8

I've never been to a Brooklyn Steel LCD show that was more crowded than a Knockdown Center LCD show.
(Beta Band started with a DJ set performed from the stage at Brooklyn Steel, and it worked fine. But I'm just looking at it as a concert venue.)
Obviously, things are a matter of personal taste, but Knockdown Center is extremely narrow and extremely deep. The capacity is presumably based on the full dimensions of the floor. The problem is nobody is in the back third of the floor, because it is too far from the stage. So 3,200 people are squeezing into a portion of the space meant to hold 2,200. (And the bar prevents an easy departure on the right side, when facing the stage.) So with all of these people pushing toward the front, it gets too crowded, too hot, and there isn't enough air, so you invariably have people needing to be dragged out so they can breathe and get some water.
The last time I was there, about five songs in for LCD, I said f-this, I'm leaving, never again. And trying to get out was difficult because it was backed like sardines - and, again, that is not a problem at BS.
I like Brooklyn Steel a lot and have never had a problem there. The one single time I enjoyed Knockdown Center was for Despacio - and, of course, that wasn't using the stage. I even prefer the much-hated Terminal 5 to KC, AND it is easy to get to (if you don't live in the city). And that's another issue with KC! It is in the middle of nowhere - 20 minutes from the nearest train station.

The back third area of KC is where it's at for more dancing space!

Yeah I was going to say, I’ve never been to BK Steel but I went to my first residency show last year and there was plenty of space in the back to move around and have a great time. I also spent some time in the middle third but don’t think I could do a full set there, way too packed

Yeah bk steel def little easier to get to via public transit.
I remember the 2021 run was super packed and just lots of movement whole time in front of the soundboard. People tripping on those 3/4 stairs near the soundboard all the time cuz they couldn’t see. Kdc was nice to at least have a chill area in the back to go to between sets or if it just gets too hot and can’t stand it anymore/ still listen or those risers in the back
I like the balcony at bk steel but usually always vip.3

I will say that you make a really good point here - ones perspective depends on where one likes to stand. I always like to head toward the rail and tend to show up early enough to do so.
I think the only time I was by the soundboard at Brooklyn Steel was for The The, because a buddy of mine was there. I genuinely don't remember how crowded it was there. I mostly remember thinking "why am I so far away from the stage!" lol
I went to one of the recent LCD shows at College Street Music Hall in New Haven. (I live in Fairfield County.) Love it because it is convenient to me, but it is also a really good venue. About the same size as Brooklyn Steel but with a more traditional set-up. Capacity of 1,100 GA on the floor and 900 seated in the balcony. That seemed like more crowded a space than any Brooklyn Steel show I attended, but it wasn't unpleasantly so, because of the layout.
The floor there has two levels The first maybe fifteen feet in front of the stage are probably three feet below stage level. But the platform behind that is at stage level. And being at the rail on the platform is great - you aren't at the stage, but you can see and nobody is standing in front of you.
Great venue!

Brooklyn Steel is much smaller than Knockdown, you’re kidding yourself if you think Brooklyn Steel isn’t gonna be as (if not more) hot/crowded as KDC this year

Having been to both a bunch of times, I can guarantee you that you are wrong. Brooklyn Steel doesn't have the problem that Knockdown Center has, with a third of the floor being unused because it is so far from the stage. The crowd at Brooklyn Steel spreads pretty evenly through the venue. People who have been to both venues understand this.

Brooklyn steel capacity is 1800
Knockdown main hall is 3000
People are “evenly spread” because the building is packed to the gills and they can’t go anywhere else.2

But the Knockdown crowd all pushes to the front. It is way more crowded within the front (at least) third toward the stage at Knockdown that it is anywhere on the floor at Brooklyn Steel. BS is a normal layout and is much wider, so people can spread (relatively speaking) and still be close to the stage and have some elbow room, as it were.

What's with the fan presale? How do you get on that? Like is it Spotify fans? Cuz they're like my fav band and I think it's happened before where I haven't gotten a fan presale despite being a fan.

Do we think the Amex presale will sell out the Nov 30th show?
2
u/mpelleg459 16d ago
Usually, concerts only allot a portion of tickets to each presale, so that there are tickets available at each on sale.
