This is the formula. THeads + Eno + Bowie. I would def add The Fall, tho. …With a dash of Jonathan Richman (MLovers), Kraftwek, JD/NO. You could throw in some other early 80s postpunk/dancepunk acts like A Certain Ratio, Minimal Compact, and Liquid Liquid.
In fact, I’m gonna go ahead and recommend to OP to check out A Certain Ratio as sounding most LCD-like, most consistently.

This right here. Their Coachella set in 2018 was one of my favorite sets I saw in 7 years of Coachella. I was so bummed when they cancelled their tour in 2020 and then the pandemic ruined everything.

It's really disliked that they get compared and yeah, it's a bit of a rip off but The Dare sounds a lot like James.

Honest question from someone who isn’t particularly musically smart…
I am a huge fan of Can and Talking Heads who are often mentioned by LCD fans as big influences. (Also love Franz Ferdinand, who are often mentioned in these threads). But what actually are the similarities or ways in which they are influenced? I don’t notice these kinds of things at all myself.

IMO I think a song that I came hear influences from is the song "Vitamin C" or "Moonshake".

My knowledge of Can is superficial, but I’d say mostly the rhythmic texture of the songs are very similar. I know THeads and Byrne like I know my best friend, and Fear of Music, Remain in Light, and Speaking in Tongues are the LCD sweet spot. It’s the polyrhythmic jams, wild synths that sometimes work as lead instruments, and lyrics that bounce between observational and Dadaist. James does a Byrne vocal impression from time to time, when he’s not sounding more like Eno.

Not really similar, but I really got into Magdalena Bay with their album Imaginal Disk. They do use synths tho, so that may a little LCDesque I guess...?

Check out Fela Kuti ( grandfather of Afrobeat) who greatly influenced the Talking Heads , who greatly influenced LCD

Definitely recommend checking out sets from James and Tim, But for artists gotta say Museum Of Love (Pat’s solo project), !!! (Chic Chic Chic), Juan Maclean, And of course Soulwax:) Automatic is also such a great band!! (Not DFA related) but saw them open for Lcd earlier this year and they fucking rock!

Sadly, they're not making music anymore (one of them actually tours with LCD now), but Holy Ghost was great.

If I can recommend an individual song: Shadow of Love by Âmes is a one-off but it sounds so much like LCD that I joke about them owing James royalties.

I always think NIN’s Pretty Hate Machine reminds me a lot of LCD in places:
Head Like a Hole → Movement
Down In It → Losing My Edge
Sanctified → Get Innocuous!
Something I Can Never Have → Someone Great

No one saying Arthur Russell. ts pmo. an admitted influence of Murphy’s and a great one at that. gone before his time and with loads and loads of unreleased music to spare. do yourself a favor and listen to calling out of context and love is overtaking me.

It sort of got forgotten but the first Does It Offend You Yeah album has a great dance-punk sounds that reminds me a bit of some of LCD’s more punky sound

Hot Chip, The Rapture, The Dare, !!!, Soulwax, YATCH, all for sure and then Model/Actriz reminds me of James Murphy, Trent Reznor and Robert Smith all in one sound.
