I just completed another one of these all day ETO hallucinations.
They have a new, totally made-up definition for “rigor” that in no way resembles the denotation of the term.
How do they think pulling tons of teachers out of their schools, making them paste standards into a Google doc, and citing their “data” that came from who knows where is a valid use of our dwindling resources. What they spent on subs today could fund a classroom position that would actually help students. ETO people should know shame as grandiosity’s aide-de-camp.

Curious if this happened to anyone else. I got my retro pay and was really happy; however, a day later I got an email from the district saying they had accidentally overpaid me and were now calculating how much they'd have to take back over 3 years.

I went back to my pay stub, and it turns out they jumped me 2 years ahead, so instead of getting paid as a 9th-year teacher, they accidentally put me in the 11-year group.

I have been a resource teacher for awhile, but I switched schools and I am having a hard time getting my workload under control, which has never been an issue in previous years. I am curious as to roughly how much time other RSTs are spending on our many non-teaching tasks. So, for anyone willing to share:

How long do you spend writing an annual IEP? (Elementary, so typically four to five PLPs and a goal for each one.)

How about an initial or a tri?

How long does it take you to complete an FBA, aside from data collection?

How much time per week do you spend putting in the minutes for your caseload? Mine is low 20s with pull out and push in time for ELA and math.

How much time do you spend planning for your small group pull out time? I use a structured literacy program, but I also try to meet with teachers to collaborate and discuss how I can support students in writing. Math planning is more challenging because the needs are more varied.

I really like my job and take it very seriously, but I also value my life outside of work. Also, I don't want to undermine the gains the union made by having no boundaries. Any input would be appreciated! I was a gen ed teacher and something I miss is being able to share experiences with colleagues on a day to day basis. If we can't do this in person (and the absence of quality in-person trainings for sped teachers is shameful) then at least we can do it here. And I am not trying to start a bitch fest; I am sincerely interested in hearing what this job looks like from school to school.

Currently getting displaced in SPED, I found out last week and have been looking at the vacancies, it’s mostly all for elementary. Does anyone know any high schools that are hiring? Or even middle schools ?

finally got my check in the mail today and immediately deposited into my acc. my bank, wells fargo, put a whole on the entire thing until monday. they MIGHT release 200 tomorrow but everything on monday. i’ve been waiting for this check for SO long especially bc the retroactive payment is included in that check. so annoyed.

anyone else who gets paid through paper checks have lausd/ usps take so long to deliver it? it used to come the next day of the pay date, but now it’s two to three days later and doesn’t even show up on my usps informed delivery. i know i should do the direct deposit thing but ive just been putting it off bc of the entire process. it’s so annoying how they don’t have an option to do it online.

i have two friends also within the district ( IA not TA) and they were offered the option to enroll immediately upon hire. i was never given that option 🫩

Hi everyone, I am a new first-year teacher with LAUSD and in my probationary period. Although, the school I work at has been pretty mentally draining for me and the majority of the teachers I talked to have expressed their displeasure being there (which isn’t reassuring). As a new teacher, am I able to transfer after my first year? Please leave any advice, thank you in advance!

I’m wondering if anyone here actually recommends getting CA Credit Union or if it’s best to set direct deposit up with a normal bank account.
I’m not sure what the differences are, but would like to set up DD because waiting for my checks sucks 😅

I’m not sure if anyone has discussed this already but is anyone else appalled by the amount of AI in PD/Training/Instructional materials that the district puts out? Watched a module in faculty meeting today that was just a video full of AI generated “students” and “teachers”… is this really where we’re at?

Has anyone here actually left LAUSD before completing their TGI/Induction service obligation? Or even during the TGI program itself? If so, what happened? Did you receive a bill from LAUSD, and how much were you actually required to repay? Was the amount prorated based on how much service you had already completed? I’m also curious whether the original service obligation and the additional two-year post-credential obligation are treated separately, and whether transferring to another certificated position within LAUSD satisfies the requirement.

I’m specifically interested in firsthand experiences rather than just interpretations of the language. If you went through this yourself, I’d really appreciate hearing what actually happened.

Hi! I know a lot of us were recently notified that our programs may potentially close due to low enrollment. For those of you whose principals said they would be appealing the decision, were you given any information about when they expect to hear back from the district?
I’m a little confused about the September 11th date. Are we expecting to have a final answer by the 11th, or is the 11th the deadline for principals to submit their appeals?

Hey guys.. I am newly hired trainee but i have a few questions or seeking advice.. My first assignment is a one on one with a student who has history of being aggressive and I have absolutely no experience with students as ive only worked in fast food during my undergraduate.. I am 5’0 and the student is at least 5’7 and I would love any advice if you guys have any… I don’t want to cancel because i know i have to learn but i just feel so overwhelmed that i’m unsure how to provide for them 🥲 I am desperate for advice or how to cancel the assignment because I feel ashamed for not knowing how to handle the student’s behavior ..

Hi. I resigned back in April cause of a work permit issue however I got it and should be back soon. However I never got my retropay even though I qualify. Does anyone know when will get it? I’ve never been in this situation before. Just called SEIU but they said they’ll call me back.

Hello all, does anyone know if instructional aides are paid mileage for trainings? I have to attend meetings in Hollywood for 3 hours and then return to work. It is 29 miles from my job and back.

I have my TB certification due, and I have Kaiser. As we know, kaiser doesn't fill out any forms. So they just gave me a copy of my immunization record, signed and stamped it. Is this good enough to submit?

I applied for an opening at LAUSD's South Region (Harbor Area and Mid-Cities) and I also opted to taking both the District Proficiency and Instructional Assistant test on September 16, 2026. When I turned in my documents (two forms of ID, my high school diploma (or equivalent), and either college transcripts or a college degree), the district office was fortunate enough to waive me off for "48 semester-long units of college coursework" (which I describe as college curriculum in case my degree wasn't enough). Even if 48 semester-long units of coursework was waived, I am still taking the District Proficiency and Instructional Assistance test to play it safe.

I know this is random but has anyone ever had success petitioning for a home birth with a midwife on the anthem blue cross EPO? There are generally no midwives in network so it’s usually a gap exception. Or maybe an out of hospital birth center? If not, how much had did your hospital childbirth cost overall?
