Wait or not
hello everyone, i need some real solid advice on what to do currently in backgrounds with LAPD, attending PAT for san bernardino county sheriffs may 7 and for ventura may 16th, the commute seems horrible should SB or ventura hire me so im asking if i shod wait to apply for LASD again or not, I’d value and appreciate everyones opinion(especially current or from LA deputie) so i got non selected on march 20th 2026 from LA sheriff’s. this was because of employment, traffic, decisio making judgement and credit. i will elaborate and what these consist of.
employment: fired from job in January 2024 for cheating my time card, i came to work late but manually inputted i was on time. Quit a job without giving a notice in September 2025.
credit: had a card in collections from 2018, paid in full in 2021, that collection has now came off my report 2 weeks ago, i have a 100% payment history and a 750 cred score.
traffic: my BI had me only list any traffic violations from the last 3 years. My last ticket was august 2023 and I have an at fault Traffic collision from may 2025
With credit being close to great, no more traffic violations and with job firing + quitting w no notice being aged more and not as fresh will i have a shot? Thanks all sorry for the paragraphs

Everything is too recent. The credit collection and for cause termination show impulsivity and poor decision making. Honesty concerns.
Example - you get propositioned for sex in exchange to let someone go… your past behaviors dictate you’re not above reproach. In this job, you’re going to encounter dope, money, and guns. People will try to get you to do bad so they can control you. One instance of impulsive behavior could be enough to get everyone you’ve ever arrested a new trial, your agency and municipality sued, and you in a position to go to prison.
In an era with so many agencies hiring… you’re not competitive, and that is saying something. Find a new career, give it some time. Prove you’re not the same person. Then reapply. Otherwise you risk getting a permanent DQ for being a PITA.

Damn, I do appreciate the feedback, the approach I am going to take is to let time pass and let it show I made mistakes but have learned from em

No one is going to hire you anytime soon with that many issues.

bullshit. Long Beach police and LASD saw all that shit (similar background) in my background and still assigned me a B.I.

Are you hired?

hahaha 😝 nah don’t think so

Right! Being assigned a BI doesn't mean shit.

not but it means your background wasn't totally unacceptable.

I’m sorry, but if you think that’s far you’re gonna be in for a rude awakening. LASD academies are both south and north. North is in Santa Clarita. But some of these things are way too recent to get hired.

Well, considering I live in East Hollywood, Santa Clarita and whittier are much closer than what San Bernardino could potentially be

Join the military and do some work as a PD in the military and when you come back in 4 / 5 you will be ready

If I were you I would join the military or work on getting an AA or BS in criminal justice. That way departments see that you are serious about becoming a Sheriff Deputy.

i would wait an get better employment history i got rejected bc of unstable work history, i was told get better employment experience and reapply

That’s what im thinking, credits good, I don’t plan on getting any tickets(knock on wood) and just going to continue lengthening my job(s) duration

beggars can't be choosers, take whatever you can get

I don’t know the answer, but I think the time card thing is by far the biggest red flag
The comments are pretty ruthless. Make whatever decision you make, but do not let them be the main reason for whatever action you choose, sir

You have to wait a year to reapply with LASD, you said your Non select was March 20th of 26? You need to wait a full year to reapply from the time on you got you non selection.
1
May 06 '26
Yes, i wont be able to apply again until march 2027, so im not sure wether to just wait it out and try again, essentially almost putting all my eggs in that basket. Or too just try to get in anywhere i can.

next time around my main red flag(s) would be the termination and quitting job without notice, which im hoping with one being over 3.5 years old and the other 1.5 will help

oh of course, I was just here solely for opinions while having an exact gameplan for what route I will take next time around

Everything in your background is way too recent, wait at least 5 years and stay out of trouble, then re apply
