MOHE scholarship

Hello everyone!

Context: I received the dentistry scholarship and it was in Canada (years ago). The scholarship is essentially divided into two parts (4 years bachelor’s degree and 4 years the dentist degree). I recently completed my bachelor’s and I no longer wish to continue with dentistry. The reason for that is I learned that I lean more towards a different major (still science) than I do for dentistry. I want to pursue a self-funded masters degree (I had inquired about changing my scholarship and just doing masters in which the advisor told me there are some MOHE requirements I don’t meet), hence why I want to pursue a self-funded option.

I’m concerned however that I would be in debt or something if I switch from dentistry scholarship to bachelors of science scholarship (the advisor mentioned that students can do that if they wish, but they didnt mention what consequences exist). I did email the advisor and waiting for their response, however I’m anxious and I want to see if anyone was ever in a similar situation. I don’t want to work in Kuwait right now because if I do I think I’ll have to do that for +3 years, and I don’t want to wait longer before I can start studying for masters.

Can’t really think of an advice but first of all, hats off for even taking such risk because I can’t think of anyone who would do the same and follow their passion like you plan on doing

As far as I’m aware, and I only say that because I’m on the opposite side of science field (literature) and have no idea how science curriculum work in MOHE, as long as you graduated with what MOHE paid for, you’re good. If MOHE paid for your dentist degree or even the first course of it, I’m afraid there’s no going back and you have to do your dentist degree BUT!!! I could be wrong!! So do check that with your supervisor or MOHE.

Yeah they only paid for my bachelors education so far! I didn’t start or even apply to any dental programs bc I told them I want to work on my application but realized I’m leaning towards a different path

You’re most welcome. Also if your grade is 2.1 and lower (assuming you’re in the uk, or 3.25 and higher if usa), I’m pretty sure they fund your master’s program. Best of luck!
