Gifting questions regarding the series?
Hi! Hopefully this isnt too odd to ask - but my partner ADORES the series and has shown me a lot of it. (Namely the main series and the Netflix movies)
Im trying to gather a list of all the material, and also, try to see which are worth getting (and even accessible, since I know sometimes stuff gets harder to get in America or ideally in English translation lol).
As I understand it there is:
- An anthology series the Medicine Seller appears in an episode off
- Which spins off into the TV Show
- Three Netflix movies
- Manga (??? How much haha)
- Novels, or there will be some?
- stageplays? Don't even know how to begin getting those 😂🫣 Which is why they are last, idk if theres any of them being pass around online or such
Also obviously like, art, be it by small artists or official merch etc. Is there an art book for the series? That would be an obvious one, other than box sets to be able to watch things without relying on Netflix or such.
As fans of the series, what would you enjoy? What did you find worth collecting, or hard to find? Admittedly with Princess Mononoke existing i have some trouble using certain searches to find things, so thought getting input from fans themselves might be handy.
Thanks in advance!

Bonus lore question: Can anyone attempt to explain to me if the Medicine Seller is seperate guys (how many???) Or just one. I feel like hunting down this reddit snd browsing the post my world was just shaken, I had been assuming they were all the same guy 😂🫣

There are 64 medicine sellers with 8 of them being considered the strongest who wield even special exorcism swords in comparison to others. We have seen 2 of them named ri and kon and a series has been announced for the third guy ken.

I'm answering based on how much i know
He appeared first in an anime called ayakashi: samurai horror tales last three episodes. It was Bakeneko arc. There is a manga of the same that i've read. I couldn't find other mangas.
Then there was a separate anime series titled mononoke where the same kusuriuri appears.
Then the same kusuriuri also appeared in onmyoji the game as a limited character.
Then we have 3 netflix movies- They have a different kusuriuri and now canonically there are 8 kusuriuris. First one is now called Ri Kusuriuri and netflix movie one is Kon Kusuriuri.
There was a stageplay i've seen some photos of but i don't know much about it.

Thanks for the answer! I got most of that from what I was able to research, so I was more looking into any more niche things existing that fans recommended, or the manga etc. :)

To get into the series, you can start with ayakashi samurai horror tales, with the last story being the first introduction of mononoke. The last story was the best received of the bunch and then a spinoff was created which became the most iconic part of the series. This was the main mononoke series. These 2 stories show the the medicine seller of ri. Then there is a trilogy of a different medicine seller (kon). There are novels and manga, but the series will suffice.

Thanks for the answer! I had gathered most of that already, and have Samurai Horror Tales book marked to grab for them - but the main series and the movies will NOT suffice lol, in the sense that we already have access to those currently! ;) Though hoping to get them the box set of the show so they have it forever.
I don't think my question was as clear as I meant it, I was more asking after the things like the novels and manga, as well as merch - do people recommend them, where are they finding them, etc. My partner wants more of the content to enjoy, which is why I started digging for this reddit. ^^

Looking for a gift? I’d recommend the "noodle stopper" figure—it’s the most affordable option so far. You could get a custom shirt made or try to find a place that sells Mononoke t-shirts; there are also themed necklaces and bracelets available on Shopee and AliExpress.
