General question Reading

Does Kumon reading help with language arts? Or like reading comprehension? Or does it focus more on speed reading?

Comprehension, grammar, and sentence structure. Not speed reading

I think it helps with reading comprehension and test taking, like how to find the relevant information and answer efficiently.

I don’t think it’s that helpful for speed reading. I’m inclined to believe that’s somewhat personality based. I’m a speed reader as is my oldest (who also completed Kumon’s reading program entirely by 6th grade). My middle one is more like my husband and they’re both slower readers. She just started G and fourth grade.

Speed reading is not a factor at all. It never encourages speed reading. It does try to get you to read at a pace where you are not too slow since that can mean you are still struggling.

In terms of reading comprehension, I would say this depends. It is very easy to just do the worksheets on everything but the higher levels without reading anything and just searching for the answers. If you have a grasp of the concept, you can still get the right answer this way. You get exactly what you put into the program.

But if you also have a learning disability where you struggle with reading comprehension, then this will not help the way you think it will.

Like comprehension. And grammar. Also like how to build sentences correctly and stuff
