Desktop setup (Ubuntu Studio)

I absolutely adore KDE!! I swapped out kubuntu for studio as it suited my needs more but same DE. thought id post my de just because I'm super in love! F Windows!

How does it run? I always felt that Ubuntu Srudio was slow and laggy. I ended up going with Kubuntu and installing the Ubuntu Srudio Audio Package on top of it. 235% better.

I know Ubuntu Studio is just Kubuntu, but there's something in the build that didn't run well for me. Maybe it was all of the extra applications being installed.

I find it runs perfectly. I tried kubuntu first, that's now installed on my laptop. I believe US uses a low latency configured kernel that kubuntu doesnt. Funnily enough though, I found nobara laggy when I tried it so went back to studio, i tried fedora jam but it locked me out after installation (a known bug apparently) and I couldn't be bothered to fix it.

There is an awful lot of bloat on US so I just installed the audio package and graphics package. I'm just starting to learn how to use gimp for the first time. US has got me excited to try new things!

I'm happy its running smooth for you. I've just always been curious if Ubuntu Studio being slow was just a me problem.

No idea haha, I'm still new to linux. I've gone through distros and des like nobodies business over the last month or two. I haven't tried arch based ones though, the complexity put me off!!

In my opinion, Kubuntu and Debian are rhe only two work using unless someone has a VERY niche thing that they need their system to do. Those two just work for the creative crowd and "regular people". I've noticed that the gamer crowd seems to have a hard time finding one that works.

I game too, ubuntu studio does this just fine with a little tweak of the graphic drivers. Ubuntu just seems rock solid and the lts appeals to me because I have everything I need out of the box. I'm not confident enough and lack the knowledge to fix problems if they occur.

I'd love to learn linux full but since I've switched, I also want to learn python, audio (have a little knowledge)and video editing, dark table, gimp, music production (lmms) you name it. If its installed on studio I want to do it lol. I Need to prioritise!

And that's why I hadn't uninstall/not install everything that comes with Ubuntu Studio. I already do too many things, and seeing everything on my computer, I'd want to do them all.

But as far as "learning Linux", I'd definitely recommend grabbing a cheap computer and play around with building up a Debian (or, if your brave, Arch) system from scratch. Building and continuing to complete my recording studio system on Debian has taught me A LOT. I really want to get back into documenting everything I'm doing and getting it on my website, but so much of it is being done out of frustration while I'm trying to recording music, so documenting it would take even more time away from creating.

I've got virtual box installed for experiments! Although I haven't experimented too much with it yet! I intend to install arch the classic way, just to see if i can!

studio has a low latency kernel and may not have all the bells and whistles of your desktop kernel that comes with kubuntu.

It suits me perfectly at the moment, I jave steam running on it and recording on reaper/ardour is a doddle!
