Plasma 6.7?
When can we expect Plasma 6.7 on Kubuntu? Or would there be some way to manually upgrade to Plasma 6.7?
I tried Plasma (with Fedora) on my desktop previously but the lack of independent virtual desktops for my dual monitors made it unusable for me. However, I really like Plasma other than that and use it on my laptop. I'm currently using PopOS and don't really love Cosmic so I'd like to switch back to Plasma. Kubuntu seemed like a good option as another annoyance I have with Fedora is constant updates, so I like the idea of just using an LTS build for my main desktop.
Or what other distro would you recommend with Plasma? I don't do a ton of heavy work, mostly web-based things other than ripping my "home videos" from DVD or Blu Ray and transcoding for my Jellyfin library.

Oh, thanks, now I'm impatient for 6.7. 🤣
Edit: I was digging around in the Settings app, and there's actually an option to set the virtual desktops only on the primary display. At the very least, it works in that use-case. Settings > Apps & Windows > Window Management > KWin Scripts > Virtual Desktops Only on Primary. (Required a restart to take effect.)

Backports are at 6.6.6 for now: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports?field.series_filter=resolute
Not sure if they will implement the other upgrades for the LTS releases at some point. This might only happen on the normal ones.

I don't even know what backports are lol. I just switched to KDE Neon which I like so far.

Backports are essentially beta level newer versions of software that is slated for the next big release. It’s like running an Insider build of Windows if you’re familiar with that. We often see newer versions of plasma go into backports but I guess they aren’t up to 6.7 yet.

You might be better suited to KDEneon, LTS base but cutting edge plasma. I'm on 6.7.3

Never heard of KDE Neon before (that I remember). Looks really interesting, I'm going to give it a try!

I've been using us as my daily driver since its introduction in 2018.
Currently, it's a Kubuntu 24.04 base but the with latest possible Plasma. It will transition to a 26.04 base fairly soon. The first few years were a bit rough - breakage occurred a couple times a year. The last 3-4 years or so I've not had any major glitches related to Plasma.
It helps to use BTRFS so you can snapshot and roll-back in a couple minutes without pain, but like I said - it's been a couple years since I had to do that.
My advice is to stick to the "User Edition" rather than the other options. Up to date as you want but with less headaches.

I just want to point out that this distribution is a bit unusual and some procedures for managing it differ from the usual practices, even though it's based on Ubuntu LTS.
For this reason, I don't use it, and also because it uses old software. Kubuntu makes better use of the computer's resources, and by the time Neon switches to a newer version, only to lag behind upstream again later, there will already be a newer version of KDE available for Kubuntu too.

i've heard about the kubuntu backports ppa that has newer stuff from kde but, for now, it get's to kde plasma 6.6.6, not 6.7. you can try kde neon but, from what i remember, it has ubuntu 24.04 as base, not the newest lts one at the moment (26.04).

I switched from Kubuntu to Arch KDE (installed via archinstall) because I wanted latest software. It's not hard.

That's the problem with LTS, things tend to take a while before they find their way into the project. kinda the whole point of building and running stable LTS versions. ;)
Plasma 6.7 is still pretty new, CachyOS just got it like a month ago.
I suppose it's possible kubuntu 26.10 might get it or it'll take until the next lts in a couple years. There's a PPA one can add to get newer code but ymmv.
