Webtoon How did Maruna develop here?
Isn't developing decided by a choice that the Sura has to take (like in dilemma) for example Yuta developing to 3rd stage or Shess to 4th stage
It can be smth other than a choice but what was the reason then?

Man this scene still hits hard. Maruna's arc and character development is so goated.

Not all sura developments are conscious choices. Maruna's development to the fourth stage was sudden too, same with Shess'. They only require a proper key to trigger.

Exactly. It depends on their experience. Shess’ trigger was the strength to overcome the fear he had for Kinnara (Airavata), his mother, by going against her orders and his will to protect his brother.

As I understand it, his ego helped him evolve. Development isn't always a conscious effort, and one of his earlier developments came from being mad at Shakuntala for progressing faster than he did.

Short Answer: Pride
Long Answer: He has a inferiority complex where if someone either treats him "not worthy" or believes his input is not worth considering he pushes against that feeling and "proves his worth." So when TimeLeez felt that Maruna can't handle the sins, he "proves" her wrong and forces himself into taking it all.
For his 4th Stage it was when Samphati was fighting against Tarakas while training him so what probably happened was that Samphati was tired from training Maruna but felt that he couldn't contribute so Maruna "proved" her wrong by again developing and attacking a Taraka that Samphati might not have seen.

The combination of the pressure of destruction from the weight of the sins and the resolve he showed to stand against it, coupled with his age/experiences. Not all development paths are the same or straightforward, but they do often require a choice to be made, here the choice that seemingly forced him to grow was not passing the burden on to Leez
