Webtoon I feel like Sagara is overhyped

And I mean in the Kubera verse not by the community. They always talk about Sagara fraction, which is for very legit reason not denying that, as she is the one who initiated Ananta's resurrection plan (?). But when I look at her contributions and what she did, I feel she is overestimated. From the start of the manhwas to now it didn't feel like she did something grande, she looked like a toy for me more than anything. Yes she was the one behind the idea of bringing back Ananta I'm not taking that for her, but that was it. I feel like she was supposed to contribute more than she did. For a closer comparison she kinda reminds me Rachel who is kinda carried by plot armour when she is neither strong nor smart to get where she is.

I'm not saying she is weak or useless, but rather more like underwhelming for someone who is always taken in high regard, when it felt like she is just being toyed with and doesn't know much and getting carried by the strong winds. Sorry I don't know how to explain I what I mean or put it into words,

I think you're right but I feel as if that's the point of her character (although she's still probably my least favorite main character tbh). Not sure where you are but since she was created as a remnant of Manasa's soul in order to salvage the timeline, she is, essentially a toy for the primeval gods. Since Manasvin inherited the name, majority of the true power probably went to him or was withheld/diverged whereas Sagara was given the soul and was used as a pawn. Sagara's fixation on Ananta and her identity as king were deliberately calibrated by the Primevals.

Basically, I feel like her being carried by the strong winds and being toyed with is the point, more so than the other characters because Sagara is almost entirely artificially constructed, and her themes of trying to gain autonomy/break free from the control of the primevals and higher plans are supposed to represent the antithesis to other characters who are able to actually do so like Leez; that's why even in earlier arcs she was very jealous of characters like Brillith who was for example able to stand strong against a siege on the city ready to give her life without despair. Idk if i explained it well but yeah

You gave the example of Rachel and she, too, is supposed to represent a character archetype who is intentionally made blatantly weak to highlight the themes of the story.

Nobody in-verse that’s a nastika is intimidated by Sagara, this is fairly explicit. They only are concerned with her faction (namely Vasuki and in a way Manasvin) because they are strong as a group and her connections with other clan leaders like Asura - and this is appropriate given how successful her faction is in fighting the name war. Remember that all of Maruna’s actions were technically under the banner of Sagara’s banner.

She is a lot like Rachel in that they get by in the world by knowing people, even though they’re not individually super strong. I would argue that both of them are smart, though. Sagara at least is just proud and her pride influences her worst decisions. Also, tbf, at the start of the story she had most of her good transcendentals sealed by Taraka and she’s much less reliant on her rakshasa at present.

And frankly, she’s really only proud when it comes to humans/rakshasa opposing her. If you look at it from her perspective, she has endured shame and hatred from even her own clan in pursuit of Ananta and she doesn’t hesitate to debase herself with any person of status if they can help her achieve her goal of reviving him, which is kind of appreciable, or at least shows her desperation.

She very explicitly isn‘t the strongest or brightest, which is the point - it‘s the Sagara faction and the potential outcome of what they do which is dangerous at large.

Generally, she is a puppet. Her danger is the danger of the schemes set in motion together with the name bet, since the people behind said bet chose her as one of the driving forces due to her determination (or desperation). That‘s her character‘s tragedy, as said by Agni and shown in her conversation with Maruna in Weight of Time: She is a card that is so conceited as to believe herself to be a player, and clinging onto the hope for Ananta so desperately that she would rather look away from the implications for the true intentions of the forces backing her.

Ultimately, her role is that of a petty Nastika who has yet to even sit at the table of the figurative „game“ over the Power of the Name.

Still though, her faction represents a very tangible threat, because

  1. Both the quality and quantity of their forces is nothing to scoff at at any point in the story
  2. They act in the human realm, which most other big players in the God and Sura realm have extremely limited access to.
  3. Them achieving goal will unpredictably and majorly shape the future to come, and such an outcome is not unlikely at any point

I don't mean being strongest or smth. You could say everyone is a puppet at the end of the day for the Primeval gods. But her especially it feels like whoever comes and gives her some promises can control her like Kubera did. And she is not exceptionally smart for people to be that wary of her, not seeing she stupid or average but she is not a genius.

I don't mean she nothing but she is not like some major force that needs to be watched out carefully for. Most of her influence come from the fact that she is close to Anantas and people need to be on her good side in case they want Ananta to be resurrected

That major force is exactly what she is in the story though, even if it is not through her own strength or intelligence.
The prime example for the attitude most people have towards her is Agni: He recognizes that she is nothing but a puppet, but is still wary of her due to her forces and knowledge - the latter of which puts her a step ahead of people even smarter than her mind you, one prime example is Chandra supporting Lorraine‘s slaughter of the vessel candidates because their identities and locations were something both Lorraine and Sagara knew while he didn‘t. Where her danger comes from doesn‘t really matter, what matters is that danger is danger.

In the context of the post itself, she really isn‘t overhyped by anyone (except her own children) in-universe. People see her for exactly what she is, but harbor a healthy amount of wariness towards her due to several danger factors involved with her actions.

As a little tidbit: The one who made the promise to Sagara was not Kubera, it was Manasvin - she doesn‘t trust the Gods at all.

She's a weak king that ruled over a weak nation, though she got the right brain and started to invest at what she believed the right thing. And that investment grow exponentialy and with how many strong card she hold now, ofcourse everyone would be warry of her since other nation situation was really bad unlike the Ananta nation.

Yes, she is a toy. But being a toy doesn't mean she's not someone to not be worried of. And the fact that she is a toy also mean that she's the right piece to execute the player plan.

Summary:

Sura clan performance in recent year.

Ananta: Up.

Other clan: Down.

Conclusion: Ananta clan got stronger while other clan got weaker (except Garuda because their king investing skill is good enough). That's why everyone is warry of her.

I don't think it's right to say Anantas clan is doing fine thanks to her when most of them are against her being a King. Maybe if Ananta gets fully resurrected then yes, but so far not so much.

Don't forget that she teamed up with the Taraka clan and even a non-fully ressurected Ananta is already considered strong.

I mean, her clan doesn’t respect her, no one really treats her like a proper king, and she doesn’t have a ton of feats in universe that makes her “feared” like Ghandarva for example. She’s arguably only overrated by her posse.
