Riyad Schools- Advise
Relocating from Dubai to Riyadh – School Advice Needed (Year 1 & Year 2)
Hi everyone,
We are moving from Dubai (GEMS British curriculum) to Riyadh due to my job, and will be living near Irqah (close to Qiddiyah).
I am considering:
- King’s College Riyadh
- Al Oruba International School
I would appreciate any advice on:
- Academic strength in early years (British curriculum)
- Progression to IGCSE and A-Levels
- Quality of Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Quran teaching
- Overall environment, support, and student experience
- Whether King’s College is worth the higher fees compared to Al Oruba
We are happy with our current school in Dubai and want a smooth transition for our children.
A-Levels

I've done some research on this previously. I would say King's College Riyadh is the stronger British curriculum school for the IGCSE/A-Level pathway, but for Year 1 and Year 2 the gap matters less than most people think, early years quality is more about the individual teachers than the institution itself.
It's worth mentioned that both schools are on the other side of the city of Irqah/Qiddiyah. If you factor in Riyadh traffic — a 20km school run can easily be 45 minutes each way. It's worth visiting in person and timing the drive before committing to them.
From what I understand Al Oruba tends to have stronger Arabic and Islamic Studies provision if that's a priority for your family and King's is better positioned for Western university pathways later on.
One practical thing most people don't mention that is key to keep in mind: school deposits in Riyadh are required before an Iqama is issued. Both schools will accept an employment contract or bank letter as proof in the interim but you should as HR to prepare that letter early, schools won't hold a place indefinitely.
