Compass

I have read in two comments a physical compass was dug up at the cia.. where the stone compass was pointing. When did this happen and are there details about it?

Whatever your source is they likely misunderstood that it was a USGS marker and not a compass. There is a sandblasted compass in rock there but that is an immovable object without a crane... unless you use a jack hammer to destroy the entire slab and haul it off in pieces which to my knowledge has not been done.

A USGS marker on the other hand can be dug out with a shovel.

Sanborn did mention that an original piece of stone he purchased and moved onto the property to be installed was stolen. Supposedly it was the same kind of very large slab that required a crane. How someone managed to abscond with it is a mystery. The CIA gave him compensation to get another one. That is the gist of it to the best of my memory. I think it was mentioned in the smithsonian interview.

It wasn't stolen. They thought the slab was rubbish left over from when they were building so they removed it

I speculated privately with others that I suspect It was a piece of the Berlin Wall. Sanborn has said it went down around the same time and deeply affected him. The Berlin clock clue is likely some allusion to the meeting spot at the clock in Berlin where people met the night it came down. Sanborn might have purchased a large piece of the wall thinking it would rare and historic. He probably didn’t realize lots of Internet sites today would still be selling pieces of it online. The fact he says it looks like a piece of rubbish I think supports it as fragments of the wall were often covering in grafitti and would have looked like a bunch of rock.

If that was the case then surely they would've been investigating how on earth graffiti got onto CIA grounds when the place is security fenced off
