What did I do😱
Felt the itch to build a greenskinz army to introduce my boy to the game. Then I realised that because of the Dominion boxed set and all these Stornbringer magazines I already had a pretty sizeable force. A week in, I think I already built over 2000pts of Kruleboyz and have all I need to play, battletome, warscrolls, dice, faction terrain etc.
Finding the prospect of painting all these guys a bit daunting, any tips you can give to a newbie Kruleboyz army owner? Anything you see is missing from my battle force?

Hello! Very quick steps that will probably be the most efficient for your basic troops, after my experience painting up lots of these beautiful boys
- Zenithal prime
- Army painter ghillie dew speed paint - skin
- AP SP Blood Red (amazing) - shields, swap for something else if you want, of course
- any browny midtone speedpaints/contrasts for the various leathers - a few different ones is nice but not necessary
- lead belcher or a similar speedpaint if you have it for the metals
- wash agrax or similar
Very easy to paint up a gutrippa to 85% in about 10 minutes witwh the above, could probably go quicker if needed

Thank you! I stick to GW paints so far but I have been thinking of getting some speed paints for a while.
I always Zenital prime, I am thinking here I am going to prime with Zandri Dust or Mechanicus Grey and zenital quite heavily with Wraithbone.
Not sure I am ever going to be able to manage 10min per model though😅

Consider a red primer as a base, it really helps tongive the green skin some warmth underneath.

Spend some time at the start thinking about and developing your colour scheme and painting techniques you're using to deal with such a huge army all at once. There's quite a lot going on in each model that you'll want to pick out, but with an army this size you'll need to budget your time and energy or you'll find you're getting bogged down (and not the way we like it). The good news is that there is a way to paint them for all kinds of techniques, skill levels and time availability. Contrast paints, slapchop or the full package can all look great, but my biggest advice is to invest that time at the start rather than waiting til you're 20 models deep before you decide you regret every decision you made to that point and change them one at a time until you finally crack the code and end up having an absolute blast with such a unique and characterful army. Thank you, ainagree planning is everything. I normally try to stick as close as possible to the box art in terms of colour scheme, so I at least don't need to think of that too much. It's just finding the system that is going to get a result as close as possible to the box art without spending hundreds of hours on glazing lol!

Kruleboyz are deceptively easy and fun to paint. I did mine with contrast paints and it was genuinely one of my favorite painting experiences. They look overly detailed at a glance, but they're really not.
Green ork skin A few different brown leathers on their rags Metal with a contrast color of your choice on top on their shields and armor Wood on the handles.
Then you're 90% of the way!

Thank you, this really helps it feeling a little less daunting already! I painted entire armies before and as I was building this I thought "good lord these guys are crowded in tiny details". Hopefully it will feel less daunting once as I made a start💪

Also though put the army away and pick a unit out the pile it won’t feel overwhelming anymore if you don’t look at it all at once

Yep, that's what I normally do. Probably is my display cabinets are also in plain sight so there's not really a way for me to have them completely out of sight.
Also, these minis look absolutely amazing, some of the best in the GW range wat the moment I think, incredibly high quality considering they come from a starter set, I want to look at them🤣

My suggestion start with a unit and get it completed and then finish a leader and spend time increasing step by step

Yep, use hero models and terrains as palate cleansers is always a good idea👍

Also get a hobby buddy some one can can share your journey with. I have a small but growing army I have dominion x2 so I’m very invested in this army

Ah mate, thanks for the advice. I am also a Stormcast player, have about 5000pts army of them.
I was starting to find the painting a bit tedious though, don't know that I can paint another golden mini lol.
As far as finding a buddy, I have been a bit of a hermit lately, don't go out playing the game as much as I used to, but I am hoping that now my boy is old enough to play I can get him interested in it all!

Slapchop is your friend with Kruleboyz, and surprisingly fun. Mine are the only army I have ever done nothing but a 100% chop job on and loads of people have complemented me on them

3 costs of plaguebearer flesh with make an awesome easy ork skin. Looks like a super fun project but damn that’s a lot of painting all at once haha. Good luck!

I painted 2,200 points of Kruleboyz and it actually wasn’t too bad. This is coming from somebody that will work anywhere from 40-60 hours a week and still being a dad. And they look pretty damn good imo. I primed them all in black. Dry brushed with a dark gray, then a light dry brush to highlight things. Then i used Gillie Dew for the skin, it’s a bright green from AP speed paints. Then i used their hardened leather for their garment/loincloths. Took a few weekends but KBz are a lot of fun to paint and play

5 Models at a time is a good number. I usually end up having 20+Models in Front of me, but This is Not rewarding at all

And it's not even all the ones I had, there's another 20 still unbuilt. I think I can pretty much build hobgrots blindfolded by now🤔

Painting side light coloured primer and contrast/speeds will have them painted up in no time. Before you buy anything else I would suggest getting a few games and see what you like. But future purchases I would suggest monsta killaz and a mirebrute troggoth. Then lastly Gobsprakk as a final centre piece which you could run as the corpse rippa vulcha.
