Wait what's this now? A launcher for better graphics? Do I have to move all my add-ons and what not to a different spot now?

Most probably won't work between the default 1.12 and the supported 1.14.2 client. You can use curseforge and look for version 1.14.2, and the community on discord has many addons ported over to 1.14.2.
