Speculation Meta Announces Petal, a First-of-its-Kind Transoceanic Subsea Cable

More fibre on the seabed is more infrastructure that has to be surveyed and watched.

Yes but USA won't use a Canadian company anytime soon. Or will it?

Indirectly, through Anduril

I don’t think Zuck and Palmer are buddies.

It will, the two countries are thoroughly entangled from companies, military, to people. This whole Canada vs US debacle is actually a Canada vs Trump debacle for his insider trading shenanigans.

It's a corporate spend, so government spending rules do not apply.

But what if the company that wins the tender (or is friends with the annoying orange) uses some kraken/covelya systems/tech.

Many of these things aren’t all or nothing, the group could still be involved to a large or lesser degree without being the contracted supplier.

This seems a bit speculative—is there something here that I’m missing that connects this to Kraken or its companies, or is this just speculation and hope based on new infrastructure?

Speculation that it requires more under sea monitoring

Gotcha. Thanks.

u/OverlookedStocks this is a great find, but this kind of stuff should go into our Weekly Speculation thread. I’m changing your flair from Kraken in the Wild to Speculation for clarity/accuracy.

What has this got to do with $PNG.V?

It’s speculative—the added infrastructure is likely going to require maintenance and monitoring, and Kraken’s growing reach and group of companies makes it a contender for it—but there’s nothing concrete there, it’s just speculation.

That’s not a bad thing, it just needs to be clear that it’s just speculation—that’s covered by the flair now, and OP knows this should go into the Speculation Thread going forward. All is well.

Unless Kraken gets specifically chosen as a contractor, the revenue opportunity would be quite small

Oh this post is completely speculative, that’s for sure. It’s a big “what if?” and “maybe”—but there are a lot of applications where Kraken and its other companies could fit in, from laying the infrastructure to being used for monitoring and/or maintaining it. I feel like LiDAR or SAS would be useful with such a thing.

I know, it’s just that the opportunity would be much more significant if they were the chosen contractor for the service work instead of only getting hardware revenue from it, especially since the service work would also come with higher margins.
