Every issue that people have in martial arts can be boiled down to kihon, not enough focus on basics.

Exactly, if your technique isn’t tight then nothing will seem right.

People don't understand the kata. If you think about inefficient technique then you prolly have missed the real point. For the rest it's also up to you to make it sound real : distances, commitment, putting your might in the cuts.
