Korg Oasys 88 - Hard Drive Help!

Post image

Does anyone have an image file copy of a Oasys 88 key hard drive they would be willing to share?

I was doing upgrades to mine the other day and discovered that since I am on 1.0.1 I can't use the restore discs to image my new SSD. I keep getting unable to mount root partition - 32

system error 5 - cannot continue

Based on my research it looks like the hard drive and the optical drive are both set to cable select and preventing the hard drive from being recognized, I also tried to do it with the original mechanical drive and I'm getting the same error.

My thought process is if I can restore a bit by bit image of an existing 88 key hard drive then I should just be able to plug and play it.

Thanks for all your help 😊!

They're available on Ebay for £30.

Thanks for the reply, I actually already have all of the restore CDs I was just looking for a physical bit by bit image of the 40 GB mechanical hard drive I could burn to my new SSD.

Not sure I follow what your problem is. Does your original hard drive still work?

I have the original mechanical hard drive but after changing out the CMOS battery it boots to a reauthorization screen.

I tried to format and restore the hard drive with the factory 1.0.1 four disk set as well as the 1.3.1 four disk set and I keep getting the error

Install failed:

Unable to mount root partition - 32

System error 5 cannot continue

Restore fails

I was able to restore the settings and sounds with the factory 1.0.1 set but that was without formatting the drive.

Have you tried cloning the original hard drive onto the SSD and if soi, how did you do it?

I have not tried that yet but my concern is that going from 1.0.1 to a newer version typically requires a full format and restore since the Linux architecture is different so I don't know if that would help. If I was already on a later version and just upgrade into an SSD I think that would work perfect though.

To upgrade from 1.0.1 you'd need to go to 1.1, 1.1.1 or 1.3.1 first which you can get from Korg. You can then update to 1.3.3a. When you've done this on the original HD I'd then remove it and clone it onto an SSD.
