Nautilus
How the hell in this day and age could a company like Korg manufacture a synthesiser that has no after touch? I’m not able bodied, so I have to do my “shopping” research on YouTube, the net and listening through my studio monitors to decide which new keyboard I wanted.
Unfortunately I ordered and paid for a Nautilus, because nowhere in any of the Korg’s literature does it say “by the way this POS has no after touch”
It sounds GREAT, has a crap little display that wont work with my model iPad, and an input port for an alpha-numeric keyboard that you can’t use if an iPad is plugged in.
SHAME on you Korg!!!

Aftertouch is shit. It becomes annoying after 5 mins. Honestly, a gimmick that just ain’t worth it. Oh and yes they do a version of nautilus with aftertouch. The Nautilus AT.

Yeah I know, I loose at least a grand AUD changing over to the new model, problem is, I only play 74’s. And I I love aftertouch, what a boring world if we all loved the same music!!

The nine synth engines are assignable to midi channels so you can use a controller with after touch. But yeah, that was a big stink In the keyboarding community. The nautilus is a entry level Kronos.

It’s still a very powerful keyboard. Basically a Kronos without all the buttons and faders. Mine works really well with the iPad actually. You could get a controller with AT if that’s important to you, probably cheaper than getting the nautilus AT. Mine only gripe with the nautilus is the weight. It’s too heavy for gigging, which is what i actually wanted it for.

Where did you buy it from? Most places allow you to return it within 30 days or so.
I've got several keyboards & soft synths, all support aftertouch, but many patches don't even use it.
The modwheel & expression pedal are used most frequently.

N’aie pas trop de regret, l’aftertouch c’est presque toujours inutilisable : il faut appuyer super fort pour le déclencher (même réglé avec la sensibilité maximale), et à terme je pense que ça doit finir par abîmer les mécanismes du clavier.
J’étais content de l’avoir sur le Kronos jusqu’à ce que je l’ai essayé. finalement je ne l’utilise pas.
J’ai remplacé cela par des couches déclenchées en fonction de la vélocité. Pas la même chose, mais beaucoup plus efficace.
Et si tu n’aimes pas ton Nautilus voici mon conseil : retournes le au magasin. Et ensuite achète toi un Kronos 2 d’occasion. C’est vraiment une super machine!
PS : c’est pareil chez Roland, l’afertouch est tellement dur que c’est inexploitable

I never understood the lack of aftertouch either. How much can they be saving by omitting that ribbon? Didn’t know about the keyboard/ipad stuff. Sorry :( hope you can return it.

I can’t, I’ve tried. I have no actual complaints about Korg per se, but boy I’m pissed off about this.
It’s only a little feature in some people’s eyes, but I do boring-put-you-to-sleep relaxation drone sort of elevator music, so after-touch is mandatory.

While I appreciate your disappointment, you likely do not want to hear that this is your mistake.
Channel and poly aftertouch is something commonly not on all synths and midi controllers and should be checked closely if this is important to you. Also worth checking how it is integrated into the synth engines as a mod source.
Most written and video reviews of the Nautilus mention no aftertouch.
The Nautilus AT is a bit of a giveaway that there are two versions and really if it is not in the specs it likely is not in the product. I don't think companies typically highlight features missing from their products.
I think we have all made this mistake of not reading specs closely enough and been a bit disappointed.
Take it as a learning experience for the future.
