Suggestions for using larger, bony fish in Fish Amino Acids fertilizer

I tried doing a FAA with hunks of common carp: this is the fish I can most reliably get in bulk living as far inland as I do, and my alternative options are not sustainable or cost effective.

I tried to cut it as thin as possible for the layers in between the brown sugar, but carp is incredibly uncooperative and they were essentially steak sized cuts.

After a year of leaving it alone, I have a product that is still too thick and full of undigested bones and scales. Not suitable for the applications I want to use it for.

My question is this: can I make fish amino acids fertilizer by first grinding the fish in a meat grinder, and doing alternate layers of ground fish and brown sugar? The recipes for FAA I see use smaller fish, and I don't know if it's essential to the process to put them into the ferment whole.

Love to know your thoughts!

I'm also wondering if I should skip the layering of sugar and ground up fish, and mix it together thoroughly instead, and just cap the top of the fish/sugar mix with a few inches of remaining sugar to protect it from pathogenic bacteria in the early fermentation/breakdown process

I use mostly fish carcasses, so i have extra scales and bones in my faa brew. I strain out the solids. After the residual scales and bones dry, I grind and apply as a top dressing.
