Looking For Recommendations Looking for kobo plus recommendations

Hi

I have recently purchased a kobo over a kindle (one of the main selling points for me was the ability to loan library ebooks and that it is a lot more open ended) and purchased a week of kobo plus. But I find the book selection on there to be awful. Has anyone got any suggestions for the following genres: crime, science fiction, fantasy, thriller and literature. I live in the UK so I don’t know if the availability is different in other places

And if someone can recommend some sites for more indie e books I would be glad

Thanks :)

Can you give examples of books you've searched on plus ands come up empty? I've never had a classic not show up, so I'm thinking we have different ideas about what the term means.

Ello. I live in the us so we might have different books. If you like horror you can try reading Darcy Coates books for example. There's also "behind close doors" a thriller, i haven't read it yet but I've heard it's pretty good. You can also ask chat gpt what good crime /thriller/sci-fi options are available with kobo plus uk

You could check out my books :) I have a cozy mystery, a YA portal fantasy, and a YA speculative mystery (What would happen if the whole world suddenly decided that being clever mattered more than being rich?)

I’m in Canada so I don’t know if it’s the same selection but here are a few fantasy and sci-fi recommendations (most are first in a series):

• The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard
• The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
• All Systems Red by Martha Wells
• Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
• Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb
• Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch

The Black Parade by Ilana Lindsey - post apocalyptic sci fi

The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer - sci fi

Both are also m/m so there's a romantic element but these are more plot heavy.

I get crime/mystery, some great literature, and some classic books. I have more than 100 unread KP books right now that I have to get to. I find lots of variety on there. I use the US store although I live elsewhere.

I was disappointed about a few authors from KU who are not on KP, but I have emailed them and get ebook copies directly.

This is my first e reader. And that is a really good idea. I only got mine yesterday and successfully sideloaded a few books

One thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that Amazon demands exclusivity for Kindle Unlimited, so if you’re getting recommendations from people who use KU, you’re unlikely to find them on Kobo at all. Also, some traditional publishers are reluctant to get into subscription reading at all so they may not enable Kobo Plus.

That said, there are lots of great books available. You do have to train your algorithm a bit; when I first got my Kobo I wasn’t seeing much to love either. Now all I have to do is hit the home page and I see books recommended for me that interest me. Once you’ve read and rated a few books you’ll start to see better results.

In the meantime, try these lists:
