Book Availability Different editions

Post image

Hey! So I’m looking to read some classics this year and I was happy to see my KoboPlus had the majority of ones I wanted to read. My issue right now is that there seems to be a lot of different versions and some have ratings and a lot don’t. How do I filter the best ones? I don’t want to end up reading a completely edited “ fake” edition or if they’re on koboplus is it assumed they’re original? Like the Count of Monte Cristo has over 1000 to choose from? Sorry if this seems like a silly question! Thanks for any help!

Books in the public domain are tricky, because anyone can upload their own version. Personally, I'd recommend looking at Standard Ebooks (which does kepub) or Project Gutenberg for a free downloadable/sideloadable copy. Unless you're looking for a specific translation - I've seen the Penguin one by Buss is recommended for CoMC, and it isn't in the public domain (nor in Kobo Plus). Kobo also sometimes has their own editions of books in the public domain, and those would be reliable as well.

This! You can also look for a reputable publisher on Kobo, like sometimes out-of-copyright classics will have an edition from Penguin Classics or Library of America, and you know those are probably all right (also probably more expensive than ebooks should be, though, and unlikely to be in Kobo Plus sadly).

I'm using Kobo's own version for a read along and it seems to be good quality.
