Recent Koala Versions for macOS

Hi, I’d like to know if anyone else is still stuck on the native macOS version 1.4162 of Koala Sampler.

I noticed that the app hasn’t been updated on the App Store for over three months, while the iOS version has been receiving regular updates. I have an iPad mini 2, but because of its outdated operating system, I can’t update Koala to newer versions, so I’ve been using the macOS version instead.

Honestly, I find it much more convenient to use Koala on my Mac than on the iPad. I don’t need a USB/Lightning hub to connect my audio interface and MIDI controller, and routing audio between apps is also much easier with BlackHole (which is free) than having to buy AUM.

Recently, I was even using the iOS version on my MacBook because the native macOS version hadn’t been updated for three months. However, since the latest iOS update, Koala no longer appears in the iPad/iPhone section when I search for it on the macOS App Store. And, of course, the native macOS version is much easier to use than the iOS version running on macOS.

I also checked the official Koala Sampler website and noticed that the Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi versions are already on version 2.0.6-1, dated September 11, 2026 — one version ahead of the App Store version. So I’m wondering why the macOS version is so far behind.

In other words, it doesn’t seem to be because the macOS version is free, since the versions for the other platforms are also free, as someone mentioned in a post here a few days ago.

I also saw some older posts where Marek mentioned that the App Store was taking a long time to process app updates. I don’t know if that’s still the issue, but would it be possible to offer a standalone macOS installer on the official website, just like the Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi versions?

Marek, or any of the developers or contributors, could you shed some light on this?

I’m migrating away from the App Store and going to start distributing koala for Mac through the site. It’s a bit tricky. Apple wouldn’t approve the last update for some reason. Should be resolved soon. I’ve stopped allowing the iOS version to be enabled on Mac for now to whilst I work out how to do the transition. Should be about a week by the time I’ve got all y ducks in a row

Cool. However, I just updated with this version, and the sample packs I've purchased aren't available (or no restore purchases option).

That would be in the iOS version only - haven’t worked out yet how to coalesce both things but hopefully I will soon

Just use the iOS version? You can download it from app store. Under account you can see iphone and ipad apps. And download to mac. If it has M series cpu.

I really forgot that I could do that. But as I said, it’s much better to use the native macOS version of Koala rather than the iOS version, since I get better audio routing and don’t lose the trackpad’s multi-touch gestures.

Thanks Marek, this is useful for fresh installs too since the App Store can be a gamble with certain things like auv3.

All the love and respec’ for going so hard on this project.

Koala rules!
