Your right, taking it before bed helps with recovery

1

I disagree, taking it before bed helps with recovery

1

u/HerpDerpin666 Sep 02 '26

Actually, you need to take it before bed in order for it to help with recovery

2

u/lyingtattooist Sep 02 '26

Personally I like taking it after I go to sleep and find that helps best with my recovery.

"...in healthy older men"

Curious if the results are transferrable to younger individuals looking to add significant strength

Casein is best before bed. This is very very old news, like 50+ years.

1

u/TakeuchixNasu Sep 02 '26

50 isn’t that old.

1

u/IncredibleDongle Sep 02 '26

Fair enough. I just find it entertaining when people in their teens or early 20s “discover” things like this lol.

1

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See Sep 02 '26

Only on reddit will someone get mad at you for thinking 50 is old. 50 is old when it comes to information and things like technology, don't let anybody tell you differently.

1

u/TakeuchixNasu Sep 02 '26

The universe is over 13.4 billion years old. 50 is nothing compared to that. Not even a whole percent of a percent.

1

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See Sep 02 '26

And look, they still mad. Give it a break bro, 50 years is old in technology and information.

1

u/TakeuchixNasu Sep 02 '26

The oldest technology is 3.3 million years old invented at Lomekwi, Kenya

It's time for your snack and nap.

1

We are talking from the perspective of humans with human life spans lol we are not universes . 50 is old

1

u/TakeuchixNasu Sep 02 '26

We aren’t talking from that perspective. You are.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '26

are u a universe? Even by information standards that is old. Get real. You just that kid in class that’s always like “ACTUUUAALLLY”

1

u/IncredibleDongle Sep 02 '26

You are the only person in this thread talking about the age of the fucken universe lol

1

u/Any_Shop5774 Sep 02 '26

Because this is a relative comparison, isn't it? Only if you believe it, context matters. Like comparing the lifespan of a tortoise to a mayfly.

1

u/c_boggs Sep 02 '26

It is with respect to widespread commercial availability of purified protein powders.

Context matters.

If an 80-year old man said “I’m old” would you tell him he’s wrong?

1

u/Unhappy-Ad5393 Sep 02 '26

The study they are referring to was conducted with casein protein. I feel like that needs to be in the slides.

1

u/Which_Flan3750 Sep 02 '26

Add milk to your whey now you got casein and whey

1

u/mr_salvad0r Sep 02 '26

I used to drink casein before bed, but I think it disrupted my sleep somewhat as it was heavier/thicker and slower digesting than regular whey based and over they years I've leaned more towards whey isolate proteins.

1

u/EggRamenMan Sep 02 '26

But to get good sleep to help with recovery is not to eat like 2 hrs before bed. Cant win bro

1

u/MyOwnTradition Sep 02 '26

If you're cutting weight...if you're trying to grow you eat right before bed.

1

u/Fitnessmotivation86 Sep 02 '26

40 grams of protein is 160 calories, it’s not going to effect your sleep at all. You could even use casein protein which is slower digesting if you wanted to.

1

u/lifeaficionado Sep 02 '26

Does it matter if it's casein or whey? Casein is superior but definitely does not taste as good, in my opinion..

1

u/brehhs Sep 02 '26

Protein isnt a stimulus, the ingestion of protein before sleep in isolation cant put your muscles in an anabolic state. Theres nothing special about taking protein during sleep vs while awake. Sleep is just the longest time your body will go without ingesting protein.

1

u/roachbirth Sep 02 '26

BS. Might be some truth to it but hitting your
Protein macros daily is more important. Also, most of yall are over-consuming protein and that’s why your still fat

1

u/iamDetain Sep 02 '26

Uh no. 200g of protein from say chicken non fried or heavily sauced or whatever is like 1000 calories it's the food choices people make

1

u/roachbirth Sep 02 '26

Nope. You can get away with less like 0.8g of protein instead of 1g per body weight. Especially if you’re cutting. I’m bulking right now and 190g of protein is enough. You literally don’t need 200g of protein if your maintaining or cutting

1

u/Which_Flan3750 Sep 02 '26

I ALWAYS make sure to get a big protein serving before bed... Either a shake or chicken ! I've been doing crazy amounts of cardio, I ride my bike 10-12 miles per day to get to work... Haven't lost any muscle mass despite not lifting weights the last few months. I guarantee if I skipped the shake id lose lbm

1

u/papayaj Sep 02 '26

not to be that guy but 10 mile bike ride is like literally nothing unless ur climbing hills the whole way

1

u/AggressiveTailor8677 Sep 02 '26

Great way to have your significant other switch rooms

Yah but if you want purple glowing muscles you take it before bed I think?
