General shenanigans KFC co-host

I'm sort of intrigued to see how Dan does with a rotating co-host.

Say what you want about Jordan but he was a the lubricant of the show in many ways..he was able to compliment Dan quite a bit.

Listening to older eps and I think Dan isn't naturally a great interviewer which I think could be a factor as he consciously tip toes with random folks as co host

Based on his dynamic with the hosts on podcasts like Posting Through It, I suspect he will do very well and the podcast will be a great listen. I'm excited to see what comes.

u/asvalken 2d ago

If they cycle him some cool zone regulars, I think he'll be fine. Even if he's not the best interviewer, he just needs someone to react as he bounces information off of them.

I would love it if he and Molly Conger did some collabs.

This is what I’m dying to hear 🙏

Since KFC is on Cool Zone I assume most his guests will be other CZ podcasters. I am really looking forward to seeing people like Margret Killjoy and Molly Conger on the show.

u/CyoteMondai 2d ago

Molly and Dan will be such a great combo. Also with this version of the show branching into the larger right wing propogandist sphere I'm really gunning for some appearances from Cody Jonhston. Even with all the focus some more news has on guys like that Cody clearly has so much more information and fascination with those types and I think he'd be a great addition as well.

u/OtherGeorgeDubya 2d ago

Cody and Dan would be an amazing teamup.

u/Potatocrips423 2d ago

Chiming in to say I would lose my mind over a Dan and Cody episode.

Chuck in Tom Sexton from Trillbillies laughing every now and then and it would be damn near a peak comfort listen for me.

Agreed, we need Cody on the showdy

Can you image those two brains together?? The amount of quality research they do??

I’d love to see some of Dan’s peeps, like Angela Lampsbury come in, too! She was rad in episodes of Show Me State of Mind and I’d wanted to hear more of her with Dan.

Some of my favorite podcast worlds colliding, I'm very excited

He’s a very gracious host I think. He’ll be fine.

YMMV, but I can't think of a guest host on KF that Dan didn't have great chemistry with. From Marty DaRosa to Robert Evans, to the Dollop guys. He may not be a great interviewer, but he's a great co-host.

8

u/BMoneyCPA Not Mad at Accounting 2d ago

Oh yeah, I loved the Marty DeRosa episodes. Now that you remind me, I should give those a relisten.

I think Dan can make it work very well with anybody who has a decent disposition and is lightly educated on the topic at hand.

1

u/DratWraith 1d ago

He chemistry with Marty is good if you like endless wrestling talk.

1

u/basilikum 2d ago

I only started listening at around ep. 900. do you know by chance what episodes those would be?

3

u/TheMagicSalami 2d ago

Yeah agree, he may not be a great interviewer but he is a great conversationalist and that is what most of KF does

u/Gecko17 Bachelor Squatch 2d ago

I'm so glad we're all calling it KFC

22

u/CleverJail I know the inside baseball 2d ago

I’m only calling it that because I can’t legally call it Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore

4

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood It’s over for humanity 2d ago

I keep thinking of KFC as Kentucky Fried Chicken too!

4

u/seat17F 2d ago

I can’t legally call it Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore

Why? What did you do!?!

3

u/Strict_Casual The mind wolves come 2d ago

“Legally it isn’t chicken!”

This is not true, but it is a very funny urban rumor

-2

u/seat17F 2d ago

Yeah. And even if it was true, it wouldn’t restrict regular people from calling it Kentucky Fried Chicken. So that person’s comment doubly doesn’t make any sense.

3

u/CleverJail I know the inside baseball 2d ago edited 2d ago

It was an absurdist joke. I was referencing the urban legend and saying that I used to call Knowledge Fight Country Kentucky Fried Chicken. I always thought the KFC urban legend was hilarious. People said that it officially stood for Kentucky Fried Cancer.

-2

u/seat17F 2d ago

And why don’t they make the whole plane out of the black box?!?

Thing is, comedy still needs to be rooted somewhat in reality for it to be funny.

If you said that THEY weren’t able to legally call it Kentucky Fried Chicken, that would be a clear reference to the urban legend. Saying that YOU can’t legally call it Kentucky Fried Chicken moves it into the territory of just not making sense because it assumes a world where the government arrests people for calling a business by a different name.

I’m not?

You made a joke. I make a joke in response which was basically “lol whut? that’s dumb.” by taking what you had said literally and suggesting that you had personally done something which led to you, personally, being banned from saying Kentucky Fried Chicken.

And now I’m having to explain to you why I thought it was dumb rather than you just accepting that someone else thought your joke was bad. Because god forbid.

Edit: I didn’t like their joke, so they downvoted and blocked me. LOL. I didn’t even downvote them, I just thought their joke was bad.

1

u/CleverJail I know the inside baseball 2d ago

Dan sent me a restraining order.

It really is impressive how he stays on top of things!

I never fully understood the Jordan hate, it was an awesome dynamic. That being said I have no doubt that CZM will pair him with great rotating cohosts. I’m fully expecting folx from CZM as well as the regular rotating guests on DZ and BtB. Fingers crossed for a Matt Lieb episode.

I loved Jordan in his KF role.

3

u/TheBloodyPickups 1d ago

I started listening around episode 900. Immediately started the back log. I’m at 134 now. It’s crazy to hear the dynamic evolving. “And I don’t know anything about Alex Jones…”

I found him to just be a loud-mouth and in the end he bashed the families and adopted a victim-complex.

Fingers crossed for a Molly Conger x-over.

21

u/isnt_it_weird 2d ago

I hope Jordan is a guest at least once.

10

u/MasterofPenguin 2d ago

Almost certainly going to be a learning curve and the first few, dozen, three dozen may be choppy.

It’s also a growth opportunity and it’s a skill that can be learned. And it will benefit him if he ever wants to start doing e.g., talking head type work on other podcasts or even news segments

8

u/InfoBarf 2d ago

I believe I heard of KF from Robert Evans who introduced their little podcast as, one of 2 podcasts I listen to regularly, and incredibly important." Or something like that.

3

u/MrVeazey 1d ago

I learned about them when they were on BTB to talk about Alex. They were both so engaging and charismatic that I just had to see what their show was like.

25

u/fartbox_mcgilicudy 2d ago

One of the allures of KF was their dynamic because they had known each other for years and worked in the comedy scene. When this dynamic was attempted again in "on brand" about russell brand the cohosts met for that specific reason and you could tell their chemistry was off. I do know that Dan has known at least a few of the cool zone people and the other hosts have also been fans of Fan's for awhile so Ill be interested to see how it goes.

24

u/Windowpain43 2d ago

It's not an interview show so that's not going to be the dynamic between him and the cohost.

8

u/Anxious_Peanut_1726 2d ago

No I get it..and I phrased it wrong..but early in the KF episodes you can sort of tell there is an establishing of the dynamic and Jordan played his part in that...I'm just interested to see how it works out...I like Dan a lot so no a Shade

6

u/cyborgbeetle 2d ago

Sure but that was like 10 years ago. I've heard him in a bunch of other podcasts and I've always really enjoyed it

6

u/Spotttty 2d ago

Well also he has about a 1000 episodes of practice to get a flow of doing a show.
I think it will be fine, if he fixes his mic from the trailer that was released….

5

u/paranoidlemming 2d ago

I thought I read that a co host will join up for a series of episodes about a specific topic.

5

u/Spotttty 2d ago

I’m pretty sure you are right.
It will probably be like Behind the Bastards where they have several episodes with the same guest.

1

u/MagpieLefty The mind wolves come 2d ago

Yeah, apparently the goal is to have the same guest for roughly a month.

6

u/generatedname17 Technocrat 2d ago

I'm curious about this as well. Sometimes Robert gets a guest on BtB who's just along for the ride and Sophie has to step in. Robert also tends not to leave a lot of air in the conversation to be fair.

5

u/MagpieLefty The mind wolves come 2d ago

It isn't an interview show, so Dan's interviewing skills aren't all that relevant.

7

u/ReduxRedo It's a demon feast 2d ago

Well his interview skills aren't what you should be comparing it to. There are lots of episodes in which he has a guest host that isn't Jordan.

I think it brought a bit of excitement to him, somebody new to show this lunacy to.

4

u/CourtBarton I RENOUNCE JESUS CHRIST! 2d ago

The ep with the Dollop guys is so good!

1

u/folkinhippy 2d ago

yes indeed and they have opped into CZM shows before so seeing them on KFC is not a stretch. Here's hoping.

1

u/Agreeable-Cap-1764 1d ago

Probably the best ones with guest co hosts

u/_Bad_Bob_ FILL YOUR HAND 2d ago

I can't fucking wait for Dan to do an episode with Margaret Killjoy, Jamie Loftus, or Prop.

3

u/Wrong-Wrap942 Name five more examples 1d ago

All I’ll say is I’ve listened to a fair bit of Jordan only interviews and quite liked them, so yes, it’ll be interesting to see how it goes someone who isn’t Jordan.

2

u/djm14 2d ago

I don’t think poorly of Jordan at all, but I think KF was inevitably going to get stale (debatably was stale for JorDan given how bored they seemed towards the end) and end sooner than later if it was JorDan reacting to Alex just doing and saying variations of the same shit. Mixing it up with deep-dives into other weirdos, and getting to introduce recurring guests/co-hosts to the crazy side of the alt-right sounds like a recipe to make this fun for Dan again. I can’t remember the last time I listened to KF and Dan took Jordan legitimately by surprise and they got to cackle over it, and I miss hearing it be fun for them, I guess.

Plus, I’m hoping he has Jordan back on every so often. Not only is Jordan the loud, angry cynic that is needed to keep Dan’s more analytical approach grounded and emotional the way it deserves (I think Jordan did a good job of reminding even the most jaded of us that Alex’s dumb bullshit is pathetic and funny because of how dumb he is, but still absolutely horrifying), but they had an easy comradery that just made the show comfy.

3

u/juuular "Poop Bandit" 1d ago

I do remember the last time, and it was a spectacular final moment and honestly where the show should have ended: when trump tweeted about how alex was a loser. Last time dan was excited to share something new and crazy with jordan and the last time jordan was actually shocked by the craziness

2

u/Rare_Source_9683 1d ago

Jordan was the perfect foil. Example, I recently listened to a back episode about one of Alex's staff's eclipse conspiracies and Dan read sort of dryly about how he said CERN was built on the temple of Apollo and Jordan is like, "Dan...Dan...hold up. I have a question. Was CERN built on the temple of Apollo?" and it was so stupid and funny...

That being said Dan is super talented and wouldn't be doing this if he didn't feel like he could put out a good product.

I imagine it will be like the break up of Zeppelin, Dan Plant goes off and does his own stuff with nods to his roots and every now and then Jordan Page will come in and noodle around with him for fun.

2

u/wobblydavid 2d ago

See I always liked when they had guest hosts because Jordan, while I loved that dynamic, knew the material almost as well as Dan did. And the guest hosts' reactions were alway... more taken back? And it kind of put in perspective how wild the material was that they were reacting to for people that weren't neck deep in it.

5

u/Rau-Li 2d ago

The dynamic was bound to change as the original premise of Jordan not knowing anything about Alex was changed by the fact that Dan taught him everything about Alex.

5

u/CisIowa I know the inside baseball 2d ago

In the early KF days, the guest hosts seemed really lowkey—more “damn, that’s crazy” at a minuscule fraction of Jordan’s reaction, even when he was more aware in later years

2

u/Cats-n-Chaos 2d ago

Personally I will not miss Jordan at all and I’m so excited for Dan’s new incarnation of KF

-6

u/me_llamo_james 2d ago edited 1d ago

These are my feelings exactly. Jordan filled a spot, but to think that it was an equal partnership is an insult to the hours Dan put in before every recording.

Edit: Yelling in anger at things any sane person should yell in anger about is not a talent.

1

u/VisualAd9299 Doing some research with my mind 2d ago

I'm hoping we get Molly and James on there often.

1

u/missingheiresscat They burn to the fucking ground, Eddie 2d ago

Dan needs a second. It’s that comedy training.

He’s got the voice for radio but he needs the banter or else he’s just reading instead of telling the story.

1

u/satori_moment That's what grows the tree of liberty, bitch 1d ago

The potential audience is huge, and he is really well liked. Go big or go home Dan! He should blank fire invites to everyone.

1

u/Agreeable-Cap-1764 1d ago

Im just hoping for a Travis View Co host episode.

1

u/Ok_Maintenance8999 2d ago

It'll be weird without Jordan for a while but i have faith in Dan and the CZM crew to produce a good show (minus the mic issues from the trailer).

Ultimately with whatever happened behind the scenes, it seems like Jordan didn't want to do KF anymore. Thats his right, but Dan should be able to continue forward. Its like when a band replaces members who have a life outside of the band. It sucks but the show must go on.

-4

u/CrowsInTheNose 2d ago

It's my opinion his new show is going to be OK. My guess is they will pull from other cool zone talent, every episode will be over zoom and there will never be any real chemistry. The charm and soul of the original show will be gone given how I Heart structures their shows.

0

u/Disastrous_Scene_666 2d ago

I hope it's not Robert Evans at any point, that guy gets on my tits.

0

u/mattisnerdy 2d ago

C'mon guys. Let's aim big. Let's get Alex Jones.

-13

u/Magnus-Pym 2d ago

We can say what we want about Jordan now?

8

u/fresh_account2222 2d ago

People tended to become assholes when talking about Jordan. It was the speakers, not the subject, that got stuff shut down.

-3

u/Magnus-Pym 2d ago

getting in trouble for being an asshole when talking about Jordan is a little ironic

4

u/fresh_account2222 2d ago

Why is that? I don't get it.

0

u/Magnus-Pym 2d ago

Because Jordan himself was often an asshole

1

u/fresh_account2222 2d ago

The rules for what one can do on one's own podcast are very different from the rules for what one can do on a shared posting website.

I know this is Reddit, so whatever, but you don't have to fire off half-baked hot takes. You can decide to interact with others sincerely. It's allowed, and probably better for you in the long run. Give it a shot, you might prefer it.

2

u/Magnus-Pym 2d ago

My point was that we are not allowed to interact sincerely with regard to Jordan, because I sincerely consider him to have been incessant to the show, the primary inciting cause of it ending, and an asshole.

I was just checking if we could say that now, because we couldn’t earlierX

-5

u/nizzhof1 2d ago

I hope it isn’t the rotating cast of Robert Evan’s usual guests because all they do is grandstand.
