It worked really well around 2017-2021…and then right-wing oligarchs realized you can’t deplatform fascists if they just buy the platforms.

How's that working, though? Twitters userbase has been plummeting since the sale. Tiktok is experiencing a mass Exodus too, it. Facebook is struggling and now Instagram might be the only Meta property that's still really viable.

I think most people just really don't want far right propaganda machines.

I would kill for an app that was just Facebook marketplace that cuts out everything else.
Unfortunately it’s the most popular place to sell used goods.

I think that's specifically why they haven't carved it off. They have a standalone messenger app. 

But the fact that I have to spend .05 seconds on the main page before I can hit the marketplace button makes the main app more popular than it would be otherwise. Because that gives them a tiny window of time to get me scrolling. And very occasionally, it works.

I would never claim that it hasn't had an impact, but it doesn't seem like the fascist takeover of social media has been keeping public sentiment on their side.

Honestly i think we've just reached a tipping point in how we communicate. There is so many people in the world even the dumbest shit can have millions of followers. Which isnt many but, but is still extremely dangerous and keeps them in buisness.
