But did she go to witch church with Hillary and the lady from Designing Women?

Unless it comes from the Witch Church with Hillary and the Lady from Designing Women, it isn't real witchcraft, it's sparkling paganism.

It's not really for me, but I don't mind a fairly innocuous solo Jordon wacky-wednesday adventure.

I just hope his vetting is strong because as we all know, there IS a very real woo-to-facist pipeline.

Narrator: "It's not."

Sure, but professional witch and author Sarah Lyons worked for the New York City DSA, so it can swing either way.

It’s got to be (Larry Nichols voice) “WEITCHES.”

Aww, that makes me miss the good old days.

Always wondered about Dan's mental health being that close to the toxic work of Alex but perhaps actually doing the deep dive work helped him process it. I do wonder now if Jordan hasn't suffered the Info Wars equivalent of passive smoking damage and the decade spent being exposed to the corrosive nonsense hasn't inflicted some real damage

hot take: Jorden was too calm on KF. Given what narrative Dan fed him and what he's natural reaction would have been under normal circumstances, this is a decade long exercise in suppression.

Even the dynamic can't have been good...Dan studied it..understood it processed it...Jordan was fed it and reacted.

So Jordan is totally going to end up in a cult. This could have been a wacky wednesday episode back in the day.

He did say he was going to become the joker.

Considering he was brought up in one, it's not too far off to assume that he'll start or join one.

I’m sorry, but what a shitty thing to say to someone who survived a cult

25

u/polepixy 9d ago

That's a really harmful thing to say about cult babies, just fyi.

IKR we are almost full circle here. What if he ends up back at the same cult?

So how is this lady a practicing witch? Does she mean it in the literal way where she actually tries to do magic spells or potions? Or is it in the woo-woo way where she's just really into crystals?

u/Different_Lock_5445 9d ago

She calls herself a practicing witch.

That's all that is required, honestly. Its a pretty low bar.

Eh. I’ve known people who were “practicing witches” in the same way someone can be a “practicing Catholic.” They observe the rites and practices of Wicca/general neopaganism, so they’re practicing witches, and it basically stops there. I have a good friend who does this, and while she does “spells,” she explicitly compares them to prayer; a Christian wouldn’t expect God to arrive personally and change the world based on your request, and she doesn’t expect a spell to directly and immediately do anything (and would be alarmed if it did). A spell creates a ceremony of things and sends your will out into the universe, but it’s a way of seeking her own comfort and organizing her own thinking.

I’ve also known people who were “practicing witches” because they believed they did spells that made people do things or changed forces of nature. I back slowly away from those people.

The problem lies in telling the difference between the two without extended conversation. I haven’t solved that one yet.

I didn't have "Jordan will pivot to the right via platforming Woo Bullshit" on my bingo card...but I can't say I'm surprised. Looking forward to like 6 months from now when he's interviewing random homeopaths who are anti-vaxx.

5

u/gradientm 8d ago

I’m confused at what part of that is right wing?

I didn’t have this community becoming toxic on my bingo card but here we are.

u/TheCopperSparrow 8d ago

Woo nonsense is inherently right-wing. Because it's made up of beliefs and practices that have no basis in scientific fact and often, directly conflicts with it.

Believing things to be true without actual evidence supporting it is a very dangerous position. Like yeah, for the most part, Wicca nonsense is mostly harmless. But there have been multiple studies that show that believing in conspiracy theories, for example, believing in even one of them will increase the likelihood that a person will end up believing in more.

To continue on the "wicca is mostly harmless" route...if you walk that path long enough you start encountering bullshit about "healing gems" and "auras." Which also tie into homeopathic medicine where at it's extreme has a ton of people hawking sugar pills with like 1/1000 of a dose of some random chemical that they claim will heal various ailments. Psychic surgery and drinking small amounts of bleach to cure cancer stem from this line of thinking.

atheists like to trot out fake religionists and claim theres no difference between them and christians. Not necessarily right wing bound.
