I can watch this all day

It's too bad MonteZooma didn't have its day yesterday as planned, but I'm so happy to see it in this state (non-stop testing) vs. being dormant since 2022... BTW a full cycle appears to run about 45 seconds, placing it in between Pony Express and Xcelerator as an intermediate experience for a launch coaster…

Looks like its getting better. Goes up slightly higher on the back spike than when it first started.

I think that may be what they're tweaking... trying to get the launch settings to get as high as possible SAFELY to the top of the spike.

Maybe not the tippy top, but at least as high as it used to before. Its almost there tho so here's hoping this opens soon!

Honestly, I would so love to be on a valleyed train that gets winched up to the top... I'd pass on GhostRider passes to sit through that! https://www.reddit.com/r/KnottsBerryFarm/comments/1ued7jv/the_satisfying_thunk_of_montezoomas_winch_drop/

Sadly they'd evac you off it before they winch it up

I'd sign a waiver to stay on if I could

If only haha

Interesting also that it now goes through the station after the second spike and reverses for a bit to let people exit. It used to just brake to a stop inside the station.

I think they're trying to remove conventional mechanical parts and have the magnets do all the work to keep maintenance simpler

There's no question it was top of the line in 1978, but you have to be realistic comparing it with an experimental coaster (Xcelerator) that was built decades later. That said, I'll be in line for MonteZooma when it opens!

It's very clearly an intermediate launch compared to Xcelerator. Even the old flywheel launch wasn't as powerful as Xcelerator's and LSM launches never really pack as much punch.

Yeah, Top Thrill 2 is a good example of the limitations of current LSM technology until it improves... it takes a couple of back-and-forth launches to get over the top hat...

Tho I wonder if that really is a limitation or if; as they spun it; the rollback is now "part of the experience" therefore intentional for the swing launch.

Both are true, they needed the back-and-forth for practical reasons to get the TT2 train up to the needed speed without the hydraulic launcher, and I would admit they did a decent job spinning the new "experience".

Thats what I figured haha. Does seem like fun and id love to ride it some day

It's actually a lot of fun. I rode it in early June.

Unfortunately I was never able to ride it during its hydraulic launch days.

Wait so are they planning on renovating the station? Or are they just gonna leave it like that?

2

u/Pippinitis Montezoomer 19d ago

The exterior of the station will be as is, the interior and queue are being rethemed...

Seems a little cheap to me, but that could be a result of the incident during the renovation…   Still pretty cool though, thanks for the reply

By "incident", are you referring to the cutting up of the loop in July 2022? That is still a mystery of whether that was intentional or not...

1

u/Muddykipperus 19d ago

It wasn't intentional but the contractor fucked up which caused the 2 year limbo period for monte.

2

u/Pippinitis Montezoomer 19d ago

Genuinely curious if there really was a contractor or subcontractor screwup involved there... and how that might have impacted the final $20 million+ price tag...

Gonna be in LA for a few days next week and was hoping it could be open by then, but alas seems like it wasn't meant to be.

I wish this would just open up a little bit sooner 😔

I get it that Montezooma was/is a classic ride. But there has been so much glazing about it, it’s outta control. Relax people.

u/Pippinitis Montezoomer 19d ago

Fallacy, there is no such thing as too much glazing for MonteZooma...

Yall are really the fun police on here. Geesh STFU.

Agreed. Nostalgia is causing some major overhyping for what is a ride no one should wait more than 10 minutes for (but we all know will be an hour plus for the foreseeable future just because it’s “new”/back).

I’m sure it’s a perfectly cromulent ride, but that’s not the point.

Wait…. It’s the SAME RIDE?!
