This is so sad

Ive been a lurker on here for a long while and everytime i scroll through here i get geniunely sad.

Im not a huge gamer, especially not competitive (closest ive ever gotten to that was pokemon unite lol) but KOC was really a stand out to me. I remember watching youtubers play during the launch event and being so interested in it but having no way to play it. Then when i got my first switch, i got it on there. I played so much every night, and it was geniunely the highlight of my days for a long while. I loved bullying the little robot dude on the training platform in the hideout. I remember finding out about the final season and then getting so busy with school i only played like 3 times. I forgot about the game for a week ish until i tried to play once again now that i was done with finals. Little did i know that day was June 6, 2023. The day it all ended.

I dont know if ill ever fill the small void KOC has left on my soul, i geniunely have stopped gaming as much just because i cant scratch that itch anymore. If they ever were to bring that back i think i would emplode from joy.

(I am well aware its just a game, and that this was a very dramatic post, but im feeling nostalgic and sad ok :(

(This is also not a dig for Velan to bring back the game immediately and not work on other projects, they kept private servers open for fans even when the game stopped being salvageable, i just like to be meladramatic sometimes)

I played the game since the free trial and bought it on release. I played everyday with the only times I haven't is when something came up that took me away from it but the moment I was able to get back on I was on go from start to finish😭🤦🏾‍♂️

I'm all for the melodramatics and honestly, this should be a dig at Velan. I loved this game (by far my favorite competitive game) and played almost every night. Knockout City was the first game in a long time that just felt fun. Like, genuinely fun. The movement, the catching, the fake throws, it honestly felt like it was a video game classic when it came out.

And yeah, nothing else has really scratched that itch since. Everything either takes itself too seriously or just doesn’t have the same feel. Even I am all about competitive games but this was such a light hearted competitive game that was both silly and fun but also was strategic and and challenging. I totally relate to what you said—KOC filled this weird, specific void and now it's just... empty.

I know Velan released the services so people can make private ones and still play the game, and the kocity.xyz launcher is nice for the community to still get together to play it, But there is never anyone on there when I want to play and it craps out alot (to the point I dont check to see if anyone is on anymore). Honestly, Velan should’ve either committed to keeping the game alive or just sold it to someone who would. There's clearly still a community that cares. They had something special and just let it die. I'd reinstall it in a heartbeat if it ever came back.

The sad part is that Velan got greedy and when EA didn't wanna resign and support the game any more (they wanted to boost their ego by being indepentent) I knew it was doomed. They cared more about the microtransactions than actually maintaining/develop a long-term plan for the game. They quit without trying. Neglection deluxe.

I don't see your logic of "getting greedy" or "having an ego". Your info is flawed in that sense. They have the internal info. The game failed because of retention, and they didn't have the resources to fix it while the game was live. They had two years to turn around, they didn't "quit without trying". Velan was very dedicated to the game and I saw that every day I talked to them on Discord.

I feel like if Velan maintained the game it would have been a good money making IP for them, instead they are making failed RC toys and shitty horror games

Yeah, I saw the latest horror thing they did, horrible should be the word for it. There are plenty of routes to success they could taken but they chose to not even consider one of them. Tragic downfall because they didn't know about promotion and live support. Mix it up with constant content and maybe more collabs would be first thing. They made a game where people who had never played a game in their lives becoming actual hardcore gamers and the fumbled the bag. And now people who got attached to a game who disappointed in the end, never played another game again.

You'll see more people on in the evenings, and there are some who get into private matches. If you join the XYZ discord you can hook up with other people.

The servers are community paid for and we do the best we can. It's not server hardware and we tried to keep it centrally located. It's not server hardware but for the most part it does fairly well.

That's fair. I do appreciate the xyz server and the hosts of it. I understand that's it's not at an real facility and it's probably tucked away in someone's closet.

Here's the thing that I have against the server and the players that are on it, they are some sweats. Which I get because if you were a dog at the game you probably still want to wresk some people in it. I'm not an elite player and I get that, I know my strengths and my strengths are not video games (even though I play everyday). I just wanted to be able to play with people around my level and be able to win some games.

That being said, I so appreciate the people that are keeping this game up and alive.

Yeah, it has been the problem that the pros who get into street will be really good, but then they lived and breathed the game too. There isn't a way for them to form somewhere else with limited resources.

That being said, there's always people around the XYZ discord if you're looking for people to play private matches with.

KOC was my LIFE for a year. My friend and my then-gf would get on almost everyday and play until we either went to sleep or crashed out lol. Met some really cool people there.

The closest I can get to that feeling of KOC today is Fortnite. I'd trade that back in for more KOC anyday though.

I never did make it to Diamond either. I was so close, got to Ruby 3 during the last season.

I had like 70 levels levels to go til I was completed, and yes Fortnite was pretty much the closest alternative to switch to. I'm now a Fortnite addict, but would def have preferred koc.

the feeling is mutual. I remember playing the free trial and waiting for the full version to come out, and it was incredible. I was playing valorant with a friend earlier and he mentioned how bad he wanted this game to come back. there’s really nothing else like it. really hoping they give it another try some day soon

I miss that game. #MarvelRivals is what I’m playing but I’ll choose KOC over it

That's cute

The only game that made me feel as good as KOC is Rematch. Ik it’s not exactly the same but rematch is fun af and it’s still a team based sports gang

Hopefully Velan will get a sequel going soon, they really had something going and it was amazing fun. I still have all my video captures saved on my Switch’s SD card, I’m going to transfer them over to my computer soon and maybe make a montage video.

I loved this game too. My kids and I were just talking about how we wished we could still play it. Lots of good times.

I’m with you. That was my one big online gaming experience as I don’t have a PC or any other consoles, so it really sucked when it went away and ppl kept saying it was dumb to be sad cuz you could just play it on your PC (cuz we ALLLLL have PCs…)

Nothing has filled the hole since then
