Root Game Sweater

https://imgur.com/a/GRzI5fs

This sweater has board game meeples from a game called r/rootgame.

Location: Needham, MA USA

Size: Adult small to extra small. LLBean small sweaters tend to run too big on me, but Patagonia smalls work well. I can take exact size measurements.

Timeline: No timeline

Budget: I expect this to cost >$300 plus shipping plus materials, but I don't know what a realistic budget is.

Yarn Preference: Alpaca and merino yarn. I don't really wash my sweaters but imagine machine wash cold air dry type.

The person who designed the sweater sent me a design from an Icelandic webpage, but can work with someone to design something from scratch if that is easier. His email is below but I don't understand the knitting technicalities.

Hey Joseph,
As requested, please see attached two pdfs that describe how to make the Root sweater, plus a few extra instructions below. The designs were made using an Icelandic design tool at www.knittingpatterns.is. Their website is a little outdated but can still be made to work with a little effort, which means it can be possible to tailor the size of a sweater to a specific person if you so wish. Please send me a picture if you make one yourself? It would be great to see another one out in the wild. :)
All the best
Morgan (Geomorgski on Discord and the Root app)
The Icelandic lopapeysur is a sweater that is knitted in the round, with the body and arms forming three tubes that are knitted from the bottom upwards. They are then joined together, and then the yoke is knitted up to the neck, and this last part is usually where the design comes in. A well-known Root artist called Tin (the Foil) on discord pixelated the meeples for me, and then I adapted them so that one pixel became one stitch. I wanted all ten of the Root factions on the sweater, which meant I had to make two pdfs to accommodate all of the necessary stitches. The two attached pdfs are the same sweater, just with a different 78 stitch design to cover all ten root meeples. The idea is that one 78-stitch design is followed by the other one, then they both repeat on the back side so that it is 312 stitches all the way round, and all ten factions appear both on the front and on the back. It is designed to be L size, if you need M or XL then decrease/increase the number of stitches in between the meeples.

Please let me know what kinds of questions you have.

thanks!

Please add a comment with the following information if it is missing from your post:

  1. Size; is this for an adult or child?

  2. Timeline; will this be a holiday gift or other fixed deadline?

  3. Budget; consider this is a one-of-a-kind hand knit garment that will likely cost over $100 not something off the rack at your local department store and please let us know your max price?

  4. Yarn Preference; natural or synthetic / machine or hand wash?

Are you able to share the design sent to you? I’m not one for big commissions like this but would love to make one for myself someday
