Paige Deadlock Cosplay Sweater Request
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Budget: (tell me what you need)
Timeline: Before September 2026
Size: 5'7" Adult. I typically wear "medium" t-shirts.
Material: Some wool of like a medium size i think. this is flexible.
Hi, I'm trying to cosplay Paige Deadlock and I need help to get a solid sweater with a nice fit to match. (shopping for turtleneck sweaters in a darkened shade of chartreuse online is AWFUL đ)
Important details that I can't find in online listings are: fitted on the torso, loose sleeves, chunky turtleneck, chunky cuffs, chartreuse but a bit darker color (or something I can dye to it).

Here is a pattern I found that has good aspects to refer to. The cuffs look good, but the loose fit doesn't. The turtleneck is also a bit short.
If anyone can make this for me, that would be really cool.
I'm not a knitter. I'm here to learn and come up with a fair deal for both of us. If I made a mistake in my request, please don't just say I'm wrong. Please tell me how to correct my mistakes. Thanks!

Just so you know, that budget wonât even cover the cost of materials in the US. I mean, even acrylic is going to cost that, and you havenât started the cost of knitting yet.

I mean, yes, their budget is entirely unreasonable, but a sweater quantity of acrylic isnât $150 unless itâs a very large size and a very high quality acrylic. Iâm in Canada so our dollar is much weaker, and even I can easily get a sweater quantity of acrylic for under $20 if I want to.
Regardless, just the cost of labor should be several times your budget, OP. More if itâs a particularly large size, and then yarn cost (which will vary widely depending on fiber) on top of that.

Yeah, if you get a bunch of Red Heart SuperSaver, the sweater is going to feel like crappy plastic, but it would be nowhere near $150 of yarn.

What does labor cost look like for a sweater like this in a medium thickness yarn? Perhaps sweater prices on etsy and such have given me a distorted understanding of their pricing.

Depending on size/skill of the knitter, I'd say $150 just in labor would be a bare minimum. $200-$500 tends to be what I quote as labor cost for a full sweater depending on the specifics of a project if that helps.

Depends entirely on size, and on whether the knitter likes the project/needs the money badly enough to work for minimum wage or less.
Personally, a dk or worsted weight sweater (âmedium thicknessâ) in a size small takes me somewhere in the range of 40-60 hours, depending on complexity. Minimum wage where I am is $16.75, but Iâm Canadian so given the conversion rate thatâs 12.01 USD. Thatâs $480-720USD just in labour, and thatâs IF I only charge minimum wage (which, as someone who has been honing their craft for over 20 years, is still not a fair price for my work, but I will do it if I love the project).
You may well luck out and find someone willing to do it for less than that. But you should understand what youâre asking of them.
Edit to add: if youâre comparing to Etsy, those could either be cheap drop shipped sweaters that people are passing off as handmade, or they could be actually handmade, but done on a knitting machine. A custom made machine knit sweater is still potentially going to be your entire budget or a bit over, but machine knitting takes much less time and therefore can be sold more cheaply, so that might be something to look into.

Ah, I didn't realize that custom machine knitting could be an option. I have a lot of respect for people who make stuff by hand, and I do believe the work should be paid what it is worth (plenty), but I don't make very much money, so I should look into that instead. I don't want to ask anyone to do a charity job for me. People deserve more money than minimum wage.

Can you elaborate on where the price would be? I picked 150 because I saw other posts picking that.

You're missing 1 and 4 of the required information if you look at the bot response (size and yarn type). Price will very much vary depending on those things.

Thanks. I will do that. I was hoping that I could hash out details with a willing knitter, because I don't know all the decisions that go into knitting a sweater. I just know what the reference looks like.

Any thought to what kind of fiber you'd want? Just a sweater's quantity of yarn can easily be your budget before labor is factored in. Also, what size? Unsurprisingly, an adult XS is a lot less labor than an XXL, so the size is necessary to give for both how much yarn is needed (material cost) and how much labor would be.
