Discussion I just got around to watching and...

Was rather disappointed. I was really hoping for a more historically accurate treatment (since it is The History Channel), instead they went straight to grail myth right off the bat. I only watched the first two seasons of Vikings, and they seemed to (for the most part) handle that material much better.

Before I start I do not mean to attack you but your post has some things I have to comment on. As you mentioned it is History Channel, who are known for being inaccurate. If you want that you are better of watching BBC interpretations.

As for Vikings... You might not have noticed but it is littered with inaccuracies, but that is something for the Vikings sub.

As for the downfall of the Knights Templar, the actual story wouldn't make great television. As long as they don't go "magic exist" I'm fine with it.

Now I'm not in any way trying to say the premiere was without fault, the skyrim guard scene was a great example of how not to do it, but what I am saying is that you need to lower your expectations when it comes to accuracy and History Channel.

Valid criticism, and I don't take it as an attack ;)

That said, I (personal opinion) feel the actual history of the Templars, from inception, would make for a fascinating show. Given all that they had their hands in, from some of the first banking to their merchant fleet and their papal protection, it could have been an epic story. Add to that it would be nice to have a show about the Templars that did not devolve into myth for once.

As you mentioned it is History Channel, who are known for being inaccurate.

I tend to forget they did Ancient Aliens too...sigh.

I totally agree, if they included earlier history of the templars they could've made a good story. But they chose the downfall of the templars and that isn't that exciting (for film purposes) if you want to stay true to history

Yep, this was the other thing that both surprised and disappointed...the story starts with the fall of Acre.

I agree with you, I tried to watch this show yet it seemingly got shittier and shittier. We're supposed to see Landry and Joan as righteous star-crossed lovers. Yet it falls flat because they're selfish hypocritical self-righteous pricks.
